Dangerfield Series Issued on DVD
Review date: 2007-02-22 Rating: 10 out of 10

Dangerfield was an excellent series which has lost none of its freshness despite being over a decade old. All series were interesting, multi-layered, due to the blending of medical issues and crime, and very enjoyable as well. Series 2 was almost certainly the best with it's hard-hitting story lines and excellent acting, but the entire series is well worth watching more than once.
The question is, now that the BBC has finally decided to release Series 1 and 2, is there a chance that all series, (there were 6 in all, with Nigel Havers taking over from the very talented Nigel Le Valliant in the later series) will be released as well - and soon as there are no new episodes to come.It is not very encouraging for buyers when they do not get the opportunity to buy the entire set - in America, this procrastination by some companies has lead to some very good series not reaching the profit margins and producers being loath to spend money releasing later seasons, which is very short-sighted on part of the producers as everybody is crying out for the release of the later seasons.
After all we also buy these older series for their remembrance value (i.e. because they take us back to times when good television was still a predominant factor). Therefore, being cut off in mid-stream, so-to-speak, is bad policy for the makers in the end.

Series 2 of great amalgam of medical and police drama
Review date: 2006-09-18 Rating: 10 out of 10

The great TV series DANGERFIELD sees some interesting developments. Dr Paul Dangerfield (Nigel Le Vaillant), still as busy as ever, starts to become close to colleague Dr Joanna Stevens (Amanda Redman, NEW TRICKS) but new pathologist Terri Morgan (Katy Murphy) and her hawk may cause something of a triangle. Paul's daughter Al (Lisa Faulkner, HOLBY CITY, SPOOKS) has started at University, while Marty (Sean Maguire) is fed up with school and quits, trying to get a job in the real world. Dr Nick MacKenzie (Bill Wallis), still struggling with a drink-related history, decides to quit the practice, which doesn't help when Paul keeps being called out on police surgeon duties by DI Ken Jackson (George Irving, CASUALTY, HOLBY CITY).

All of this makes for more potential distress for Paul and co, especially when a lot of characters seem to get caught in moral dilemmas (particularly for Ken in one episode, where the sight of a young girl causes him to act irrationally compared to his usual self), and this is no bad thing. After all, why fix what isn't broken? These are still the same characters that we have come to love from series 1, and they're still enjoyable in this series. As before, the drama is sometimes punctuated with some witticisms and light-hearted moments, which only add to the charm.

As before, performances are as good as we have come to expect, and this all adds up to DANGERFIELD: SERIES 2 being enjoyable viewing.
