Review date: 2008-09-01 Rating: 2 out of 10

Season one and two of this series is fantastic, well written and some superb moments, from series 3 thought things began to go down hill finally ending up with this. i only bought this because it was cheap however my recommendation would be to avoid this and buy "The Unit"

The Unit - Series 1 - Complete [2006]

Not bad
Review date: 2008-01-25 Rating: 8 out of 10

As per the previous reviewers, I tend to agree the first two series's were excellent, pity about series 3 losing 4 of the original cast was quite a blow and yes the standard took quite a knock, with some peculiar glorification of the terrorist organisations?
I can appreciate the attempt to give a balanced approach, though somewhat confused...can only assume this was some sort of marketing strategy. Series 4 slid further, up until the Nuclear episode, which did a U turn back to a well put together episode, some technical irregularities, but all in all well worth watching. If you have not watched this series and you like this sort of thing, then I would certainly recommend the series...Looking forward to a series 5.

Ultimate Farce

The last but definately the worst of the 4 series! The acting, the scenery and obviously, military advice, were all appaling and I know amongst ex military guys, viewed with utter mirth. It stands out a mile, that as soon as the best actors left and Chris Ryans technical expertise was withdrawn at the end of series 2, this show gained the title "Ultimate Farce". Buy the box set with the first 3 series, and you will see the difference at the begining of series 3 which just gets worse and worse with every episode?

Ultimate force series 4
Review date: 2006-11-15 Rating: 8 out of 10

well i believe series 4 was not shown due to the world cup and all the rubbish reality tv programmes aired after i.e. love island

however i did email itv and questioned this and they came back to me with

"Thank you for your email. We have no further schedule information at
the moment for the remaining episodes of series 4 and have no
information regarding a further commissioning at the moment." basically they havnt got a clue and it seems as thought it might be pulled off the air as we cant access any information on their site

Perhaps past its prime ...?

Am led to believe this Series 4 is ITV's final one, episodes 3, 4 and 5 not having made it to the television screens for whatever reason the Powers That Be have determined. Spectacle and action-adventure aside, perhaps they, too, have noticed the downward qualitative slide in overall production, dialogue and acting. Methinks the format has now worn thin; there are just so many trouble spots around the world Red Troop can be sent to and for which screenplays can be written (three in the Caucasus alone; perhaps Red Troop can do security during the 2014 Winter Olympics!). Pity. Have still enjoyed watching Series 4, for more than just closure. I doubt there will be a Series 5, but if there is one shall still watch/buy it nonetheless. Series 2 was probably the highpoint - sorry 'Becca,' even your chest could not save it!

Anyway, main reason for writing this review was to ask if anyone else (i.e. fellow nerds!) spotted the 'in-joke' in Episode 3, 'Dividing Line.' The names of several of the American Green Berets ... are those of Master-Sergeant Ernest T. BILKO's motorpool of yesteryear and BBC2, eg. 'Barbella,' 'Fender' and 'Ritzik' ...!!! As the helicopter lifted-off at the end I was sort of expecting one of the Yanks to suggest they all have dinner at Sowici's ...
