70's scenario.
Review date: 2008-06-27 Rating: 10 out of 10
There are a few overlooked movies from the 70s. This is one. Produced by the same producer behind french connection, this has some of the same structure, for example a great car chase. The 70s atmosphere, Roy Scheiders part, the clothing, the setting in the streets of new york & generally the feeling that they don't make movies like this anymore, gives this movie an edge. Great stuff in my humble opinion. If you like this, checkout french connection 1 +2 & bullitt.

All sizzle, no steakReview date: 2007-12-14 Rating: 4 out of 10The Seven-Ups was producer-turned-director Philip D'Antoni's attempt to outdo his earlier Bullitt and The French Connection but it falls flat because of a lack of starpower and a story that just doesn't matter. If anything its more a premise than a plot - a cop is unaware that his main informer is actually using him to get information on which mobsters to kidnap - and has characterization that never rises to the level of paper thin: despite a few "just a coupla kids from the old neighborhood" lines, the characters simply aren't there, leaving Roy Scheider often seeming on the verge of being completely lost while Tony Lo Bianco's hesitancy all too often seems more like desperation for something to latch on to. The car chase is good but not that good in a film that doesn't have enough going for it for that to be enough and which sorely lacks fizz.
Fox's Region 1 NTSC DVD isn't a bad package - widescreen 1.85:1 and fullscreen transfers, teaser and full trailer and a vintage short on the shooting of the car chase. if you like french con-your gona love this...Review date: 2006-07-24 Rating: 8 out of 10Well,just a short review: This film has roy in it,he was in french connection, plays a cop again. So we know his style and in this we get good acting from the 'GOOD COP FILM ERA ,E.G FRENCH CONEECTION,TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A.
Good characters, super car chase and excellent direction with great loactions - real mean streets, back lanes , factorys etc.
Watch it-but dont compare to the 'french connection' even though its similar....great movie 8/10
