This movie is for those times you just wanna waste a couple of hours watching a DVD. Luc Besson's direction immediately becomes apparent in the music (evocative of "Leon"), as well as the general look of the movie, the costumes, the style. But then Luc Besson's movies are always distinctive and recogniseable. Which is why this movie works so well; had it been directed by someone else it might have been rather naff. As it is it never really takes itself too seriously, with tongue firmly in cheek, but it doesn't suffer for it. It really is a classic popcorn movie.
Great acting by all (especially Gary Oldman as Mr Zorg), terrifically fast-paced storyline, spectacular sets and costumes (the latter created by Jean Paul Gautier no less!). Overall a great movie, certainly one of my favourites.
