Why? Why do all the good shows have to die before their time? I remember watching this this show during the mid nineties and thinking "this show is just to good to last". And you know what? It was.
AMERICAN GOTHIC was inventive, slick, stylish and genuinely creepy. Each episode was, by design, shot by a different director so consequently each show was entirely unique and had the feel and look of a mini movie.
Gary Cole was absolutely brilliant as the fiendishly cool sheriff Lucas Buck, the best TV villain of all time! I have very little doubt A.G. was the inspiration behind later and vastly inferior shows such as PRIMEVAL, POINT PLEASANT, SUPERNATURAL etc. All of which are not fit to carry AMERICAN GOTHIC's jock strap!
This is one of the last truly great TV shows ever made so buy the box set now. You're in for a rare treat indeed.

2 words, BUY THIS! I rememberd watchin this years ago and jus remembered it being brilliant so after seeing it on Amazon i purchased and boy am i glad i did! This program is fantastic, surprisingly scary and has a plot line that most Hollywood scriptwriters would've been happy to write!
One downside get the correct runnin order for the series as for some reason they couldn't be arsed to show it in the right order on tv or put it in the correct order on dvd LAZY!
But nevermind thats not important just sit back and enjoy the series in all its glory!!!!!

And who can ever forget Sheriff Buck! Dark, omnipresent and always with a wide and easy solution to every problem...or was it? Absolutely BRILLIANT! 5 Stars for the Series! However,...
if only they had not decided to let his dark ...presence influence this DVD release!
Episodes that follow neither the intended nor the aired order; total absence of any Extras; not to mention the flimsy box!
Enjoy the magic. But probably RENT it...

Excellent series which was absolutely ruined by the fact the episodes were aired in the wrong order. This was probably the reason no-one watched it and it was cancelled. I cannot believe they did not correct this on the DVD release. Do yourself a favour and watch them in the correct order (even though it means swapping discs alot).
They really should make another series now as so many questions were left unanswered and Lucas Black who played the child Caleb Temple is now a GORGEOUS guy (most recently seen in Fast and Furious 3 Tokyo Drift and Jarhead).

This is brilliant. Cant believe 22 episodes are going this cheap!!
Really a must for horror movie fans who love the combo of religion and the supernatural. Caleb is a very good child actor and the sheriff epitomises evil but has the required level of charm to form an interesting character.
The sheriffs deputy is again a very likeable character, eventually.
They really should make a series 2, showing us how the characters have progressed.
My only complaint is that at times it can be a little seedy. But nontheless the story of the antichrist in Trinity, south carolina may leave you hooked!!
