Amazon.co.uk Review

Loosely based on the popular Disney theme park audio-animatronic ride, one might expect a modicum of good-natured "Yo-ho-ho-ing"--or maybe a little rousing Korngold/Errol Flynn/Captain Blood orchestral romanticism--here. Instead composer Klaus Badelt initially entices us with some sparing Celtic folk charm, then unleashes a furious broadside of symphonic and choral thunder to rival his ominous score for K-19. The composer's fellow German mentor is an obvious influence throughout (the album is credited with a wink as "Score overproduced by Hans 'Long John' Zimmer") but Badelt brings his own muscular instincts to bear throughout. Perhaps shrewdly realizing that genre cliches are nothing if not for reinventing, Badelt delivers his rhythmically nervous Eurocentric sensibilities--sort of Holst duels Shostakovich on the Spanish Main--with the subtlety of a scorching cannonball. It's seasoned with a little romantic respite in the final act, if a bit gingerly, and could no doubt profit by some of Korngold's sparkling melodic verve. But it's a loud, unabashed Summer Blockbuster score at heart; alert the neighbors. --Jerry McCulley

A rousing film score
Review date: 2010-07-16 Rating: 8 out of 10

For fans of the film as well as fans of film soundtracks this is almost ideal. All the best rousing, epic sounds from the film are hear. The only small draw back is that the CD is only half the length of the film so seems a bit cut short. But overall well worth the buy.

Excellent

This is an excellent CD for anyone who likes music which leaves you feeling as if you are riding the waves of the deep blue sea or swash buckling on the deck with the Pirates of the Caribbean.

Absolutely fantastic!

Firstly I loved the films but I always loved the music aswell.
I bought the album largely because I wanted that brilliant piece at the end but
having now purchased, I've been playing it non stop - on my pc and in the car.
Every piece is fantastic and there is a rolling theme throughout the pieces which
builds to the crescendo at the end.
This album is an absolute must. The only proviso is that it really benefits from
good headphones or a good stereo!
In one word........ Superb.

Must have if you love the movies!

I love this soundtrack, as other reviewers have stated it reminds you of every action scene and sword clash, it has an excellent pirate feel to it and is some beautifully composed music.
However thinking about the point of view of someone who may have not seen the movie, the tracks can be quite repetitive in places. The album flows very well whether you listen to the tracks in order or on shuffle to create a wonderful listening experience that makes you dream of an adventurous life out at sea.

Good music, but not very children themed
Review date: 2010-03-29 Rating: 6 out of 10

I bought this music for my son's pirate themed birthday party (as background music), after listening to it, I had to turn it off as it was not really for a party (very down and serious), but it is true to the film, it is just the film has loads of action, so you do not realise the music is so depressing.
