Who says the British can't do quality modern drama? This dark and tense series is as original and gripping as anything produced by the American market.
The plot is detailed by another reviewer so I won't go into that but the acting is uniformly excellent, the use of Blackpool locations gives a whole new meaning to the 'great British seaside' and the plot always keeps you guessing.

Good clean twisted sexy funReview date: 2008-02-12 Rating: 10 out of 10The BBC is still able to pull a masterpiece from out of left field. Still able to leave you compulsively watching something that, by turns, makes you laugh and feel sick inside a matter of minutes.
Here we have the family business, the young couple struggling to cope with marriage and the driven mysterious loner with a mission. And we have little of what you'd expect.
I hesitate to say too much but if you've enjoyed The League Of Gentlemen you'll love this.
A lot of the show takes place in a lap-dancing club. There you go, nuff said.Brilliant, Dark, Macabre and HilariousReview date: 2007-12-27 Rating: 10 out of 10A fantastic piece - perfectly executed on every level (direction, photography, music) with stand-out performances from Frances Barber as the ageing trophy wife of hard man Shirley Woolf and Philip Jackson heart-wrenching as seedy B&B owner Leo Finch.Wonderful, underrated seriesReview date: 2007-12-20 Rating: 10 out of 10This is the sort of series with it with its extravagant, sometimes over-the-top black humour and complex plotting which could have gone seriously wrong. Somehow they pulled it off magnificently, and not only is Funland hilarious it is also convincing as a savage and, at times, erotic thriller. The cast of larger than life characters is fantastic, but perhaps the star of the series is Blackpool itself. In the best possible way this is also the most English of comedy thrillers - crumbling guesthouses, sleazy pole dancing clubs, washed-up musical artists and gay taxidermists and deluded indie musicians, civic corruption, incest and small time gangsters... this just couldn't happen anywhere else. Gloriously darkReview date: 2007-06-07 Rating: 10 out of 10I received this DVD of the gloriously dark 'Funland' for xmas.
Jeremy Dyson from the League of Gentlemen and a writer for Eastenders teamed up to create a wonderfully grotesque story in the gaudy town of Blackpool. Relaying the intricate story of the series would take too long, so you need to check this out! Having been created by a league member I just knew I was in for a treat.
The story is engrossing with cliff hangers galore throughout and the acting by all concerned is superb. This is the most inventive and original comedy series I've seen in a long time. The images and characters will stay with you long after. A must see.
