Amazon.co.uk Review

One of the hallmark seasons of The Simpsons, season 7 features some of the strongest episodes produced during the show’s run. Considering that this is The Simpsons we’re talking about here, that’s saying a lot, but this collection deserves the accolades.

Broadcast in 1995, season seven features several signature episodes, including Part II of "Who Shot Mr. Burns," "Bart Sells His Soul," and "Two Bad Neighbors" where former President George Herbert Walker Bush moves into the neighborhood (an episode gamely playing on the former President’s open dislike for the show). One of The Simpsons’s most definitive episodes, "Treehouse of Horror VI" famously broke the third wall by using the then-groundbreaking CGI technology to render Homer first in a 3-D world, then in real life, (despite the evolution in his form, he naturally ends up in an erotic cake shop). As the producers openly note on the commentary, it was a big deal at the time, and super expensive, which is why they could only do a few minutes of footage in CGI (some fans will particularly enjoy the revealing commentary on this one, as the producers explain the many visual puns and math jokes appearing in the background of the 3-D world). It’s a great example of how The Simpsons continued to play with its visual style and take creative risks years into its run. In fact, one of the best episodes on this collection, "The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular" proves just how far the look and style of the show really came during that time. Hosted by actor Troy McClure (voiced by the late comic great Phil Hartman), it presents never-before-seen outtakes and original footage from the show’s debut days on The Tracey Ullman Show, while taking a few self-referential digs at show creators Matt Groening, James Brooks, and Sam Simon. Other gems include "Homerpalooza" where Homer thanks guests The Smashing Pumpkins for their gloomy music because it has made his kids "stop wishing for a future I can’t possibly provide," and "Bart the Fink" where Bart inadvertently gets Krusty the Klown busted for tax "avoision."

Along with the 25 episodes there are extensive commentaries, featurettes, and deleted scenes all of which add immense value to the set and will give die-hard fans another excuse to spend more hours in front of the TV. It’s another benchmark collection from a show that, up to this point, doesn’t seem to know its own limits. --Dan Vancini

Simpson, Homer Simpson, he's the greatest guy in history...from the town of Springfield, he's about to hit a chestnut tree!
Review date: 2006-06-29 Rating: 10 out of 10

I LOVE The Simpsons - this is probably the best cartoon series ever made. This is definitely one programme that I can watch over and over again, and it still makes me laugh.

If you love the crazy antics from everyone's favourite dysfunctional family, I would definitely recommend that you try Family Guy which is, in my opinion, equally as witty, cutting and downright hilarious as The Simpsons.

Whilst I have not actually bought this box set yet - with the emphasis on 'yet' - and therefore cannot comment on the extras, I can wholeheartedly say that I have watched every episode on this DVD already and they are all excellent! My personal favourite has has got to be 'The 138th Episode Spectacular' (which showcases my favourite Simpsons/Flintstones intro), but you have to appreciate the brilliant 3D episode on the Treehouse of Horror - brilliant writing and animation are in abundance here.

I'll finish off here; as a massive Simpsons fan, they're all fantastic, especially in the later seasons, and it certainly doesn't look like they're losing steam. I just can't wait for the Simpsons movie now!

Wooo, the Simpsons has done it again!!!

What a DVD!
It includes many classic Simpsons episodes such as King Size Homer and Who Shot Mr. Burns Part II
I would strongly recommend the Marge Head case as it looks great although beware, the quality is not good!
There are few DVD's that you could watch over and over again, but this is one of them!

PERFECT
Review date: 2006-03-04 Rating: 10 out of 10

PERFECT is the only way to describe this series. the reviewer above who said that the wit is not "clever" is obviously the one who isn't "clever". The Simpsons is an intelligently excecuted, expertly moulded satirical sitcom, it is the greatest tv programme of all time. It can be enjoyed on many levels, obviously the above reviewer missed how expertly applied the extremely varied jokes are, from slapstick to political, social and religious. Seasons 1-12 are perfect, Season 7 is the Simpsons at its best. GET IT, LOVE IT, or you are not as evolved as other human beings.

As good as ever
Review date: 2006-02-14 Rating: 10 out of 10

This has got to be one of the best comedies of all time!
The wit is rarely sophisticated or particularly clever, but it will appeal to your childish side. It is so easy to just curl up on the sofa and spend a whole (and very relaxing) afternoon just watching this comedy and packing in a whole lot of cheap laughs.

The characters are so memorable and individual, and it is impossible not to find aspects that you can relate to with each of them.

This programme is funny to adults and children alike, and makes a fab addition to any DVD collection. This series is as good as ever.

It is also pretty good value, as you get 24 episodes.
