More simple and uncomplicated comedy from the past!
Review date: 2007-10-07 Rating: 10 out of 10

This second season sees Cicely Courtneidge replaced by Doris Hare. Though still in black and white, this series is now started using the better known animated intro. that would become its trademark - along with the 'uptempoed' theme music. More scope for the main parts here too, as characters such as 'Blakey', Jack and Arthur take on much bigger roles. Stephen Lewis is fabulous as the surly Inspector, and certainly excels at this, and one begins to wonder what Arthur ever saw in Olive, as he is rather fanciable! (played by the late Michael Robbins - see how dishy he looks in uniform in the 1971 movie 'Zeppelin'!).

As the actors became more settled in their roles (Doris Hare in particular feeling immediately at home) this series far surpasses the first in hilarity with some really funny episodes, and thus really takes off and becomes well-established. This DVD set also has the original Ad. Bumpers still intact which were absent from most of the first set.

As with the first season; there are no DVD 'extras' or bonus material included on this release.

On The Buses
Review date: 2006-03-18 Rating: 10 out of 10

I would like to answer the previous reviewer's comments.

1) The reason Cinema Club never released any more volumes of 'On The Buses' or 'Please Sir!' (the other Granada title they licensed) for that matter was because their contract period with Granada Ventures expired and they decided not to renew it. Being part of the larger company Video Collection International (VCI) owned by Woolworths PLC, they joined the video/DVD branch of BBC Worldwide (the BBC's commercial subsidury) and formed '2 entertain' who now release BBC DVDs.

2)Network DVD are reknown for releasing classic television and have a reputation in clut cirlces for digitally remastering picture, leaving VT countdown clocks, station idents and endboards and add break bumpers intact, sourcing brilliant extras and generally producing a very good product. They signed a five year contract with Granada to release a number of series from their archives. (Granada now own London Weekend Television (LWT), Anglia, Yorkshire Television and a number of the other ITV companies)

3) I really would suggest that the previous reviewer dump their Cinema Club releases and purchase the Network sets for the reasons listed below

- Original LWT idents are intact. Not there on Cinema Club release
- All episodes have their VT countdown clocks intact. Not there on Cinema Club release.
- 'End of Part One/Part Two' add break bumpers are intact. Cinema Club clumsily merged the episodes into one, but left the remains of a music sting and applause, so it was obvious they were tampered with.
-Overall, the picture quality is sharper on this disc.

Sales of series 1 & 2 have been popular enough, for Network to announce a release of series 3 and 4 in May of 2006.

I hope this has helped to clear things up.

Good Series!!

First of All I was somewhat shocked to find that a new company have rereleased on the buses again..I already have the series boxsets from cinema club so i wont be getting these!!but I still cant see why cinema club did not bring out all the series!!Maybe the company werent bothered as the sales werent that good..I would like to see NETWORK bring out all the on the buses but having half of them already and then getting half from another company with different style DVD cases is quite dissapointing.

Back to On the Buses..As a child growing up I saw the movies only, but when i got the DVD's of the first 4 series i was impressed with it indeed
