Amazon.co.uk Review

When Jack Klugman played Oscar Madison in television’s The Odd Couple, it seemed no role could better suit him—until he stepped into the shoes of Dr. Quincy, the stubborn, crusading medical examiner in the trailblazing series (1976-1983) that spawned the medical investigation genre and earned Klugman four Emmy nominations. Beginning with the first installment, "Go Fight City Hall--To the Death," the series’ socially conscious, quick-paced, and mostly believable storylines are an engaging blend of mystery, sleuthing, sarcasm, and romance stirred together into an action-packed drama. Each episode, such as the award-winning show, "The Thigh Bone’s Connected to the Knee Bone," probes contemporary issues and promotes justice while maintaining a healthy dose of humor. A strong supporting cast includes Robert Ito (as Quincy’s loyal lab assistant, Sam) and John S. Ragin (as skeptical boss, Dr. Asten). Jamie Lee Curtis makes a cameo appearance in "Visitors in Paradise," while additional celebrity guests include Buddy Hackett, Donna Mills, Kim Cattrall, and June Lockhart. The picture and sound quality are solid and each story begins with a short onscreen synopsis and original airdate. The only deficit in an otherwise stellar effort is the noticeable lack of bonus material such as vintage interviews, a making-of featurette, or a well-deserved tribute to Klugman. (Ages 12 and older) --Lynn Gibson

Oh no, they did it again!

Why do they publish DVDs that are worthless for the hearing impaired
or for people who speak English as a second language.

There should be some law that enforces them to add english subtitles.

THE FIRST DETECTIVE M.E.
Review date: 2006-11-17 Rating: 6 out of 10

We are now so used to the plethora of sophisticated series on crime-scene science that we forget what a pioneering programme Quincy M.E. was when it was first introduced. Anyone nostalgic for Seventies decor, cars, and behaviour will drink this up in gulps. There is a charmingly straightforward plainness about the stories - and about Jack Klugman and his Japanese-American sidekick - that does not pall even after watching all the episodes. This is your chance, over several winter nights when there's nothing worth viewing on mainline TV, to see all the episodes you missed first time round.

Just when you thought you had seen all the re runs on tv, a box set pops up with some episodes that have not been shown for a long time. Quincy is a great tv show and even better without ad breaks. The only disappointing thing is the later series have not been released in the uk where as in the states you can buy every single episode in one complete box set. Come on you sales types, we want more episodes........

Quincy one of a kind
Review date: 2006-08-22 Rating: 10 out of 10

first of all I want to point out that I think quincy is no predecessor to Shows like CSI etc. Personaly I feel it was one on it's own a true original that no other crime show has come close to.

unlike csi Quincy is real, Human , warm and is not afraid to talk about tough issues.

Jack Klugman is superb as quincy M,E the los angeles county coroner with a heart. his long suffering boss Dr robert Asten 9John s Ragin) relys on quincys professionalism to get results and he hangs on to the bitter end to get them.

Sam (Robert Ito)is Quincys assistant and best friend. always there for Quincy when it matters most.

Danny (Val Bisoglio) is always there with the food and the listening ear. The stories usualy finish off in his retaurant. The humour nicely balances out the serious issues dealt with in the series.

lieutenant Monahan (Garry Whalberg) is the hardworking cop. Mildy irritated by quincy's thoroughness he is always glad to have his friend on hand to help the investigation.

Sgt Brill (Joseph roman) is monaghans assistant and partner as hardworking but not involved in as many big story lines.

seasons 1&2 are great. the highlight? Go fight city hall to the death. finds quincy fighting his boss and other cynics to prove that the strange murders that have been going on are connected. The discovery of a girls body killed by having her neck broken starts a chain of events that leads to mexico and more intruige.

there are more wonderful episodes a good smack in the mouth involves Dr Astens wife when she picks up a small frightened boy who is wandering around at night. quincy soon has to figure out why the boy had run away and which one of his parents has been hitting him .

I'm thrilled seasons 1&2 are out on DVd now more please! pretty please..

I was just amazed at how long it took for it to be released on dvd! have been been waiting so long for the release and i cant wait till further seasons 3,4 etc...to be released which i hope will be soon!! If u have never watched it and are a fan of crime and investigation type shows too me this is an absolute essential collection ,which is a lot better than the more modern shows like CSI!!
