not the great show that it used to be.

Loosing the plot...

I really enjoyed seasons 1 & 2. Series 3 was OK, but season 4 is a mess. Plotlines in Alias always were liable to enter the digestive system at the wrong end, and that was part of the fun. But the writers seem to have stopped caring now; making things up as they go along. The result is a story "arc" that traverses the digestive system several dozen times in the wrong direction, then pins a live frog on its black suit, stands on a bucket and says "bibble" to the viewers.
Nevertheless, the central members of the cast battle on regardless - although Dixon must be getting tired of playing the "redshirt" every other episode, and most of the time Nadia & Weiss just loiter around like spare parts. Shame because I think Weiss is funny and they really should have given him more to do.
I hear it picks up again in Season 5 - let's hope so. Although, I would not be surprised to discover that Pam Ewing dreamt the whole of season 4.
bio weapon of the week

Fourth series of alias, ongoing spy drama featuring the exploits of sydney bristow, sexy super spy. Twenty two episodes and various extras, collected over six discs.
The format of the show has changed from year to year. Whereas Syd was once a spy working for a black ops CIA agency only to go double agent to bring it down when she found it wasn't CIA really, and then after that she was a regular CIA agent, in this batch of episodes she goes to work for A.P.O. a black ops outfit which really is run by the CIA. If that's confusing then start with season one. Which might be an idea as although most of the episodes here are fairly stand alone and you could get into them without having seen earlier years, there's a lot of back story.
The third season was maligned for the quality of the stories, but that actually had a lot of narrative pace before it fell flat in a weak final episode. This season tries to be more self contained, and as a result most of the first half involves A.P.O. on the trail of a different terrorist each week who's got some new weapon they want to sell to the highest bidder. As a result there's little carry over between episodes and some do feel rather slight.
The season does then pick up pace with ongoing plot lines in the second half of the year, leading to quite a decent conclusion, and a cliffhanger that will be resolved in season five. even so, a slight feeling of overfamiliarity does creep into the plotting, as once again sydney and friends have to decide whether or not their nemesis arvin sloane is out to help them or do otherwise.
Extras are the standard documentaries and commentaries and the like. the gag reel is fun if you've not watched one before, but having seen the previous three, another lot of people pulling faces and making silly noises gets tedious very quickly.
Still not quite as good as the first two years of the show, but it has its moments and is worth watching all in all
What a show!

Alias is classic. It's a super-slick, action series with plenty of drama in between between friends, parents and lovers. It's James Bond-style action, Sydney Bristow (the main character) always has the right tools she needs to get out of the often sticky situations she finds herself in. Kevin Weissman, who plays Marshall Flinkman, is absolutely HILARIOUS as the geekish yet brilliantly clever tech guy. IN CONCLUSION: If you ever feel like just vegging out and escaping into a world of espionage, good acting and convincing drama (most of the time, at least...the plot lines can get quite complicated) then buy yourself some ice-cream, dive under a cosy blanket and treat yourself to Alias.
Something for everyone

I have watched alias from the first series and was absolutley hooked!! I am female but i love action/ esponniage type shows. I have told so many people what they been missing when it was on and truly believe it never got the hype it shoud have - well not in uK anyway. It was given obscure showing times and no advertisement, which is a huge shame as i feel it was one best series on TV!! The cliffhangers are unbelievable and every episode you are shocked in some way!! J.J Abrams never fails to make a twist and his work is far from predictable!
for you girls - their is romance between Sydney and a few characters and plenty eye candy! Boys- its not all about Sydneys life, 80% is pure action and fighting!!
Brilliant gadgets and of course alias'! Somethingnew every episode to keep you interested!
If you don't like gore then don't get- things like Kebab scures pinning hands to tables and fingers being cut off won't appeal to you.
Surprisingly enough the majority of what happens is believable and special effects are great! Have to say though the rambaldni story line gets bit far fetched, but hey Im sure you watched worse!
If you like Bourne Identity, Supremecy and Mission Impossible ( naturally as JJ Abrams wrote this) then get this!
