The end of an era
Review date: 2008-10-14 Rating: 8 out of 10

This was to be the last film that Ray Harryhausen provided his wonderful creations for. In that respect this film also marks an end of an era, those marvellous films that I watched as a child, with fabulous monsters and legends fuelling my imagination.
This film is no Jason and the Argonauts though. In between the wonderful monster scnes, the film does drag, not helped by a bland performance by Harry Hamlin as Perseus, and the scenes with the Gods arguing with eachother can be a bit tiresome.
Fortunately, we also get Pegasus, the winged horse and a wonderful Medusa to compensate, and Neil Mccarthy is excellent as the tragic villian Calibos. The scenes where the Kraken destroys the city of Argos are spectacular, and the film is full of wit and imagination.
So to sum up, another wonderful fantasy film incorperating Ray Harryhausen's magical special effects, and a great film for all the family to enjoy. 4 out of 5

Effective Effects
Review date: 2008-06-28 Rating: 10 out of 10

I agree that the effects are dated in this film but i don't agree that in
comparison with current CGI-inclusive films that that alone makes it a bad
Film-Excessive use of computer simulation makes both audiences and directors
Lazy and furthermore true and effective drama must have a story as well as
Excellent actors to show it...This is mythology and the actors act it well
Enough,if formally...I think that stop-frame and models have a surrealistic
Effect that transcends technical fashions although I have nothing against
CGI...Let's see a CGI version by all means but if you want more realism
that would include innovations like a menu choice for ancient Greek...
Technology without a good tale and clever actors is frankly a mindless
Spectacle on a par with a plotless virtual gladiatorial of mere episodes
Which,I think, would soon pall for most older viewers...This film is a
Classic and I commend and recommend it to new fans

Dismal
Review date: 2008-05-04 Rating: 4 out of 10

When this film was first released Star Wars had already kicked off the CG era, and Clash of the Titans' tired retread of former Harryhausen glories looked distinctly passe. What really killed the film, though, was an atrocious script, muddy photography, dreary and unconvincing monsters, and a star-studded cast obviously present for the paycheck. One of the worst films in Harryhausen's esteemed career - and of most of the actors - and one to avoid.

Bravo!
Review date: 2008-01-05 Rating: 10 out of 10

This film should be classed as one of the greatest films of all time. I can't fault it in the slightest. The storyline was just epic and for it's time, the graphics were the best. So much effort was put into the modelling and design of the mythological creatures. I remember watching this for the first time as a child and being absolutely petrified of Medusa. Even now still, decades later, I am still rather chilled at her grace. The stop motion method of moving her, gave it that extra horror factor as she seemed stiff and zombie like. You'd definitely not want to meet her when walking down a dark alley way!
