Marvellous time capsule

If - like me - you fondly recall those old itc shows from the 60s and 7os, but you don't want to shell out for expensive box sets this set is for you. Essentially a "sampler" of Lord grade's slick product of independent television's heyday, ITC 50 contains 18 shows from various popular action series. The set includes some of the most well known titles like The Saint, Danger Man, The Adventurer, The Persuaders, The Protectors, as well as the lesser known Shirley's World, and From a Bird's Eye View. There are also episodes of Department S, Jason King, and The Zoo Gang, some of the most interesting variations of the 60s crime/detective genre.
Stand out episodes are The Mirror's New, from Danger Man, with Patrick Mcgoohan, guest starring wanda ventham and Donald Houston; Shadbolt, from The Protectors, which has Robert Vaughn taking on Tom Bell; and The Man Who Liked Lions, from the final series of The Saint, with an eyebrow raising performance by Roger Moore. Death in the Family, taken from the Moore/Tony Curtis vehicle, The Persuaders is also something of a classic and is reminscent of an episode of the Macnee/Thornton era of The Avengers.
Overall, all the episodes are more than watchable, and hark back to the days when television was fun and the characters were engaging. It was also great to see Department S (when is this going to be released) and Jason King, two of ITC's finest and most memorable shows. Even my wife, who is not an avid tv watcher, has enjoyed much of the set and has remarked on the quality of the shows. A marvellous time capsule that will take you back to those sunday mornings or friday evenings of your youth when tv entertained and charmed us with these larger than life characters.
