What logo?!!
Review date: 2008-01-11 Rating: 10 out of 10

I can't believe that anybody could complain about this logo! When we watch television we have logo's in the corner telling us which channel we are on and these don't seem to bother us. So why be so upset about this logo when it isn't any different? And of course the quality isn't as good as we are used to with HDTV around the corner, but it is certainly very watchable and I find that it all adds to the nostalgia and the atmosphere of the time...I mean did someone really think that we wanted to watch Laurel and Hardy in colour?!!
As for the content, it is a marvellous television series that deserves to be preserved onto disc and should be a vital addition to anybodys DVD collection!

What a let down
Review date: 2007-08-14 Rating: 2 out of 10

I think this is a pitifully poor product and a real disappointment for the following reasons:
1. The ridiculous 'encore' logo, which is entirely pointless and unnecessary. It's Champion the Wonder Horse for Pete's sake, not the Transformers movie! The target demographic for this product would have no interest in pirating it. And those that do shell out their honest cash end up with an inferior product artificially spoilt by this STUPID logo.
2. The image quality is dreadful. I would have considered improving it by running each episode through a stack of filters. But there is no point, because the end result will still be hampered by that incongruous damn logo. Let me make it clear that the reason for the poor quality is not because the source material is old, but because no attempt appears to have been made to clean it up. It looks like it was transferred to video by pointing a cheap camcorder at a cine projector screen. The image is slightly off-centre and blurred, the gamma and contrast is poor, the chroma has not been removed leaving a fuzzy colour haze, I could go on but you get idea.
I won't be watching it because it's too irritating. Not impressed.

"quality would not be as good?"

"but since these would be derived from video tapes or similar the quality would not be as good"
I dread to think what you consider bad quality, Mr G P Betts, when you dare to use the word good in any way, shape or form to describe the quality of this truly abysmal product!
This is the second Elstree product I have purchased and to say I have been disappointed both times would be a gross understatement.
Both the sound and picture quality are atrocious , and entirely unacceptable in this age of digital remastering! The infamous "Encore" logo just adds insult to my injured memories of this wonderful series!
I found it completely unwatchable!
I would humbly suggest that anyone wishing to wallow in the nostalgic waters of Champion and his friends should wait until someone releases a quality version of this series with both sound and picture improved and without the highly obtrusive logo in the corner.

Encore Emblem Explained
Review date: 2007-03-22 Rating: 10 out of 10

As the company that exclusively licensed Champion The Wonder Horse, we felt we should explain why the word 'Encore' appears on screen at various intervals. This is the name of the American company from which we licensed the product - it has been embedded into the programming and was impossible to remove. You could, of course, buy pirate product from ebay if you wanted to watch the series without any logos or emblems, but since these would be derived from video tapes or similar the quality would not be as good. Although some companies embed their logo into all of their products in order to prevent piracy, we do not. Sometimes, however, circumstances are beyond our control.
