The Sound Of Music (1 Disc) [1965] This film is as lovely today as when it was first made and i honestly don't know who couldn't love this beautiful film. 'The Sound Of Music' stars Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Richard Haydn, Peggy Wood and Eleanor Parker, all perfectly cast. Julie Andrews comes across with such sincerity and my favourite actress in the whole film is Peggy Wood, who like Julie Andrews plays the part with sincerity. This is the latest release onto DVD. Lovely vibrant colours, the scenery with the mountains, lakes and Austrian buildings look so beautiful since the restoration and this is the best transfere to date of this wonderful film. I think the film holds a message for us all especially in the song 'Climb Ev'ry Mountain' and the lovely lines in the song 'Climb Ev'ry Mountain, Till You Find Your Dream, A Dream That Will Need All The Love You Can Give'. Those words are as lovely today as when they were first written. Sad thing is they don't make many lovely films like this anymore. This DVD is worth getting if you love 'The Sound Of Music' as much as i do. If you don't know the lovely story of 'The Sound Of Music' Julie Andrews plays Maria who is destined never to be a nun and finds out with the help and love of the Mother Abbess (Peggy Wood) how God wants her to spend her love. She ends up not only bringing her Love, but much happiness and joy into the lives of Seven children and their widowed father (Christopher Plummer).
If you are buying this because you love the songs/music then there are 2 special features that you will love.
1. There is an option to just play the songs and that is exactly what it says it is. The DVD runs throught all the songs in the order that they are one the film, or you can just select your favourites from the list.
2. The sing along option, which is just like the one above, but with (for want of a better phrase) subtitles so you can sing along.
This is the edition that you want if you love the music and don't want to watch tedious "The making of..." documentaries on disc 2 that you would probably never watch.
My wife and daughter love it!!!
