Worth it for the extras
Review date: 2008-10-15 Rating: 10 out of 10
The cartoon inserts dont really add anything to the film, although the cgi transitions are quite good. Not quite sure what the director was trying to acheive here. Having had the original for many years as one of my favourite films I had to get this as well, and the extras make up for the crappy re-editing. Great to see interviews with some of the stars and the crew.
If you havent seen the film, get the `normal' release first, this one hasnt quite got the feel of the original. Still awesome though.

Excellent film Review date: 2008-09-30 Rating: 10 out of 10When I heard about a gangs movie from 1979 I was not impressed, in fact, I was kind of not interested because I thought either it was already too old to be worth my time or just another violent film that would disgust me. I was wrong, of course there are fights, and swearing, they are gang members but it is so much more than that. The characters are well done, excellent dialogues, the gangs are fantastic and the story develops at an adequate pace. I think it is a film that anyone can watch in 2008 and still feel interested by the things it is showing, there have been many changes in the world, but society is still a jungle and there are the brave ones and the cowards with guns and the need to survive another night. I think they should not make a new movie of The Warriors, instead, they could start to put it on TV and maybe show it again on cinemas.
I do recommend it now, it is very good.Don't buy The Director's cut, buy the original DVD!Review date: 2008-04-05 Rating: 4 out of 10As others have said, the comic strip introductions to several scenes really messed the film up. As soon as I saw this cut, I rushed out the next day and changed it for the original DVD of the film. Buy the "Paramount Originals" UK DVD with theatrical poster if you can get it.Can You Dig It?Review date: 2007-08-15 Rating: 10 out of 10A really smooth gang thriller from 1979.
This movie is a success on its merits of being a really good story, with great characters, and funky music. No need for over the top pyrotechnics, explosions, and outlandish stunts.
The Warriors are a gang who find themselves in deep trouble. After attending a peace rally that goes wrong, they must traverse other gangs turf while also being hunted. Can they make it to safety? And can they stay united?
Really really great stuff.
Please don't remake this film HollywoodReview date: 2007-08-07 Rating: 10 out of 10If you are into late 70's style and can therefore stand some fairly shocking hair crimes this is a brilliantly paced story which will entertain without modern effects and fill an evening. Fight scenes, plot, dialogue are all lean and perfect but the star is the backdrop of rundown NY subways and stations, rain-drenched warehouses and low-rent neighbourhoods at night.
It is a bit comic book at times but as another reviewer says it wasnt supposed to be an accurate portrayal of gang life.
I love this as much as I love the original 'Assualt on Precinct 13'. Its just got that indefinable gritty yet artistic quality. The opening scenes of Coney Island neon in the dark are great.
Inevitably some eejit in Hollywood will try to remake this on the back of the playstation game release. It will be unfrogiveable if they don't have Depth Charge's 'Number 9' in the soundtrack.
