Amazon.co.uk Review
Released amidst rumors of romance between costars Angelina Jolie and soon-to-be-divorced Brad Pitt, Mr. and Mrs. Smith offers automatic weapons and high explosives as the cure for marital boredom. The premise of this exhausting action-comedy (no relation to the 1941 Alfred Hitchcock comedy starring Carole Lombard and Robert Montgomery) is that the unhappily married Smiths (Pitt and Jolie) will improve their relationship once they discover their mutually-hidden identities as world-class assassins, but things get complicated when their secret-agency bosses order them to rub each other out. There's plenty of amusing banter in the otherwise disposable screenplay by Simon Kinberg, and director Doug Liman gives Pitt and Jolie a slick, glossy superstar showcase that's innocuous but certainly never boring. It could've been better, but as an action-packed summer confection, Mr. and Mrs. Smith kills two hours in high style. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com
Works as spectacle, but not much more

Comedy action thriller in which Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie play married couple John and Jane Smith who are unaware that they are both assassins working for rival agencies until they are ordered by their respective bosses to kill the same target (Adam Brody of The O.C. fame). Being given the same job leads to the couple discovering the truth about each other and they are then ordered by their respective bosses to kill each other, and are given 48 hours to do so. Will they obey their orders or will they remember their marriage of half a decade or so? This movie is undoubtedly entertaining, with lots of explosions, gunfights and diverting action sequences. The banter between Pitt and Jolie as they attempt to kill each other whilst still calling each other 'dear' and 'honey' is amusing, but ultimately director Doug Liman doesn't pack enough plot into this film to make it excellent, despite the obvious star power of Pitt and Jolie and the film's tongue-in-cheek humour. Worst of all there is a glaring plot hole towards the end of the film, such that in the final analysis this film works as spectacle, but not much more.

Glad I didn't pay money to watch thisReview date: 2008-07-10 Rating: 2 out of 10This is truly an awful film. Thankfully I watched it on a flight so neither paid to see it at the cinema or bought it on DVD.
Firstly it has the weakest plot line in history. A married couple who are secretly hit 'people' and don't know each other's hidden vocation, are inevitably hired to 'hit' each other.
And that's it. There's no cheeky sub-plot and no devilish twist.
The only thing that kept me watching until the end was to see exactly how much slow-motion diving and shooting they could bet into a movie.
Actually, scrub all of that, it was 2 hours of the funniest slapstick I have seen.mr-djReview date: 2008-06-24 Rating: 10 out of 10Brilliant film. Funny in some parts. Well thats all I can say. Having Brad and Agelina as hustband and wife is really good.No no no.....Review date: 2008-06-21 Rating: 2 out of 10Shame on you Vince Vaughn for being associated with this mindless tat. An utter waste of 2 hours of my life. Avoid at all costs.Mr and Mrs SmithReview date: 2008-06-10 Rating: 6 out of 10'Mr and Mrs Smith' is a light hearted action/comedy. OK the plot is pretty bad, it has a rubbish ending and it may be a touch too long (all reasons for my 3 stars), but it wasn't trying to win any Oscars and is a fun, fairly innocuous, way to spend an afternoon. There are some funny moments, loads of action scenes and plenty of eye candy for the boys and girls. Some people seem to rate this film based against all others ever made, in that contest it will never win. But as an example of light entertainment it doesn't do too badly. Not brilliant, but not terrible either. Worth spending an afternoon watching when you don't want to think too hard.
