We see objects of great beauty and, uh, we must have them
Review date: 2008-04-26 Rating: 10 out of 10

Another brilliant season from the Seinfeld gang. The storylines and acting were now consistently top drawer. After season 4 had followed a story arc that connected most of the episodes, season 5 keeps most of the episodes separate. There are a few recurring themes; George Costanza is still unemployed and now broke, so he has to move back in with his parents. Jerry carrys on breaking up with numerous lady friends for quite trivial reasons and Kramer comes up with his coffee table book idea. Kramers entrepeneur skills are something we see previously in seasons 3 (The Pez Dispensor) and 4 (The Pick) when Kramer has the idea of a new aftershave. Elaine continues to be the sane one, but starts to attract some unusual men (see "The Cigar Store Indian" and "The Pie").

The season ends on a real high in "The Opposite" when George decides to do everything differently, causing an immediate reversal in his fortunes. This coincides with things going awry for Elaine. Other very good episodes are The Mango, The Sniffing Accountant, The Puffy Shirt, The Stall, The Hamptons and The Marine Biologist. The extras contains several deleted scenes and interviews with Larry David giving insights into how he came up with the character of George.

season five of seinfeld is widely regarded by critics and fans alike as the best of a very good bunch,i will not deviate from that stance one bit here, this is comedy gold and maybe even more than that.
The series is filled with memorable scenes and quotes and situations that you can relate to and even if you cant you can appreciate, the show about nothing as they call it still seems to be about something to me but that only heightens its appeal.
To single out episodes in something as pure as this seems a little wrong but i can pay extra mention to 'the opposite' where george decides to fight against who he is and try and be the opposite to shocking results,'the non fat yoghurt' where jerry curses, its censored but its so funny,'the barber' and 'the puffy shirt',but to be fair they are all good, and with that in mind this is a five star series, top notch indeed.

The gang finally hit comic gold

Season 5 was when Seinfeld leaped from being a great show to an all time classic, how it has remained almost anonymous for so long in the UK has amazed me. However, if 'Little Britain' is what gets the laughs here in blighty then something is not right.

Anyhow, by 1994, the scripts were red hot, Jerry Seinfeld was becoming more confident as an actor, George Costanza turned from an irritating cantankerous pain in the neck to a sly, devious character capable of carrying the show in certain episodes ('The Conversion', 'The Fire', 'The Marine Biologist'). It was also the season in which the peripheral characters gained a greater footing with the audience, Frank and Estelle Costanza, and of course the wonderful Newman played by Wayne Knight.

These 21 episodes show represent a brief period in American comedy, TV so good, the like has never been seen since. 'Friends' had a good go from series 3 to 5 but, were nowhere close to matching the comic brilliance of Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer.
