Five Stars for Marty -- and a loud raspberry for the BBC!

This series of Best Of... comedy DVDs from the Beeb have been patchy to say the least. Many have included classic sketches that you're happy to watch time and again, but a few 'also rans' have krept in too; I accept that one man's 'hit' may be another's 'miss'; but many of these compilations have only around an hour's worth of material which seems rather mean.
This Marty Feldman disc has some great and memorable sketches on it, I think there was only one which disappointed. The picture transfers are fair and the theme tune is actually in stereo! But it does only run for just over an hour with no special features, not even a brief biography. Now that it's being sold for around a fiver it doesn't seem quite such a rip off, but it could have been something special if someone had taken a little bit more trouble.

You can be quite sure that anything presented by the BBC as "The Best Of ...... will be butchered, not edited, and shorn of much that made it all worthwhile in the first place. What a pity.

ANOTHER POOR BEST OF -- one star not five!!!

I watched this & the DICK EMERY BBC best of together with this MARTY FELDMAN one over xmas & whoever put this together has insulted both comedians with very poor selections missing out their far better work. Anyone trying this to see what either artist is about will get the idea they are dated & boring, which they're not if shown a decent selection, not this. This MARTY FELDMAN one in particular was a very dull watch, seen far better compilations shown on TV. BUY WITH CAUTION!!!

There is such great stuff in this series, a lot of the sketches written by the Monty Python-teams Cleese/Chapman and Jones/Palin,
even some Gilliam animation is featured at some place. Some comedy DVD releases are filled with 3 1/2 hours of stuff.
This lame compilation is 64 minutes long..!! There were 12 episodes of "Marty!" altogether. Maybe some of them were deleted,
as with "Do Not Adjust..." or "At Last the 1948 Show". But there are at least 8 full episodes existing (if not more),
7 of them were transmitted on German TV station "arte". And considering the great Pythonesque material available, this selection
of sketches is very hit & miss. And short. This is sad, some of the best comedy went out on the BBC, but what treatment do they get?
It's 2006 and they haven't even released the complete Monty Python's Flying Circus yet...
