As indicated by a previous review this is a pretty minimal DVD release from the BBC, just a basic transfer from the old video version with no extras. Thankfully the show itself more than makes up for this omission.
It is a well written and performed series of sketches from the underrated comedy duo of Punt & Dennis that has memorable characters, witty one-liners and enough catchphrases to keep anybody happy. Hugh Dennis comes across as a very natural performer and has extremely good timing, acting as a good foil for the slightly more 'straight man' style of approach by Steve Punt.
It's a shame this is only a single compilation disc and not the entire first series, not to mention the fact that there has not as yet been anything released from the second one. Hopefully both series will be brought out in their entirety in the near future. In the meantime this is an excellent way to get into a very underestimated comedy team.
I wasn't disapointed, I actaully laughed at least twice, at the title sequence alone! Most of the sketches are very funny, includeing a great "World of Wine" spoof program, and a fantastic rant about penguins.
On the DVD there are three shows/parts, and the "A Man Called Martin" sketches, as well as some outakes.
However the DVD itself is not spectacutalar, it is litarly a video taped across to DVD*, except for subtitles on/off, there is nothing new/diffrent from a video copy. There is a scene selection, but it still feels more like a video then a DVD.
Overall it is a very funny show, some great sketches and highly enjoyable; but as a DVD it feels very basic.
(*It does actually come with a warning saying that the sound/picture quality may vary, but this doesn't really effect your enjoyment.)
