What is especially moving/significant/moving is the kiss.

All too often in movies one is subjected to an embarasing exhibition of affection/porn; here, in Clarissa, the two main characters, as lovers, portray the ultimate kiss ... they kiss each other. It is credible. He, the worldly liberine, startled by the 'innoocence' of both Clarissa and the moment and she, surrendering/suspending disbelief involve us in a transcendental moment reminiscent of when we were all 16 ...? It is a nothing else but a moment of sublime beauty

A truely magnificent drama and superb acting. Having said that I was somewhat confused as to the consant letter writing between each character when the series was first shown on the BBC, but having read the book by Samual Richardson afterwards, it makes perfect sense!!

Ten years after the first viewing of Clarissa on TV I finally managed to buy this DVD and it still fascinates me. The scenery is magical, the performance of Saskia Wickham and Sean Bean beyond reproach. The whole cast is magnificent. This is a must see for every lover of costume productions. Clarissa's struggle to remain pure and to convert adulterous Lovelace is all inspiring, Lovelace's fight to subdue her on one hand and to stay (unsucessfully) unaffected by his growing feelings for her on the other makes your knees week. Absolutely delicious work.

Whoa!!! Sean Bean tries hard to seduce virginal Saskia Wickham!!! much heavy breathing, lots of straining bosoms and some rather nice pearl earrings. Excellent acting, hardly a Sheffield accent to be heard, and lots of scheming and deviousness....top costume drama, plenty of periwigs and bumrolls, and Sean acting his pants off.... phew!
