This for most of us is a rare gem; to see the old and fab King Crimson material form the first album played by half the original members (MacDonald and Giles), some would argue the most important members, is a dream. The bass is handled by Peter Giles, the original chap (and the drummer's brother) who worked with the erstwhile Robert Fripp in the late 60s and Mel Collins covering other instruments (saxes, flutes, sampler, which handles the mellotron without spewing tapes out of the back, as the mellotron was wont to do. So far, so good. The chap covering the unenviable task of being a vocal Greg Lake and Mr. Fripp is Jakko M Jakszyk. Does a passable version, vocally more than guitar-wise. The only winge is that the bass is almost inaudiable. Now, if you are like me, you'll love your bass. It makes music 3 dimensional and give music a bit of punch. Stops it sounding like it's coming out of a transistor radio. And unfortunately, in places this sounds like that. There are some great shots of Peter Giles playing.... something we are sadly not partly to. Never mind. This is great and should be in the home of every self respecting prog-rocker in the land. And elsewhere. Like Floyd? Get this. Like Genesis? Get this. 'Nuff said. It's nice to see, if not to hear, bass-ically speaking.......
