Hate Eternal's third album continues their expansion away from non-stop blastbeats to a more varied form of death metal, incorporating tribal rhythms on the likes of Sons Of Darkness and the instrumental Faceless One and even a groovy didgeridoo outro in To Know Our Enemies. Be assured though there's still plenty of light-speed shredding with the likes of Behold Judas and It Is Our Will, which surprisingly despite being a first musical composition from drummer Derek Roddy turns out to be one of the album highlights. The album isn't entirely flawless however, and the one total misfire is the title track, which lurches around in a very simplistic and boring manner. Not appreciably better than their last album, I Monarch is nonetheless a good solid dose of death metal that will keep fans of this band happy.
