Amazon.co.uk Review
He never learns. In the fourth season of his award-winning HBO comedy series, the quasi-fictional character of Larry David continues to say--and do--whatever he wants whenever he wants. In the first episode alone ("Mel's Offer"), in which Mel Brooks offers him the role of Max Bialystock in The Producers, David offends a doctor, a lesbian couple, a wheelchair user, and Ben Stiller (by not shaking his hand after he sneezes). Then, in the second ("Ben's Birthday Party"), he offends a blind man--by telling him his girlfriend's not as hot as she claims--and pokes Stiller in the eye with a skewer while attempting to show agent Jeff Greene (Jeff Garlin) his new golf move. Larry continues to offend Stiller until he drops out of The Producers and, in the fifth episode ("The 5 Wood"), David Schwimmer steps in. The following episode ("The Car Pool Lane"), in which David attends a Dodgers game--with a prostitute, so he can use the carpool lane--made history when it set an innocent man free. Unused footage from the show, entered into evidence by the defense attorney, confirmed his client's alibi that he couldn't have committed a murder because he was at the game (alas, the Braves still trounced the Dodgers). Other guests include Ted Danson ("The Weatherman"), Russell Means ("Wandering Bear"), and Gina Gershon ("The Survivor") as a Hasidic hottie. In addition, the hour-long season finale ("Opening Night") boasts a bevy of stars, including David’s old colleague Jerry Seinfeld, Nathan Lane (Broadway's original Bialystock), and fellow Tony Award winner Anne Bancroft. As they've done since the early days, Cheryl Hines (Cheryl David), Susie Essman (Susie Greene), and Richard Lewis and Wanda Sykes (as themselves) do what they can to keep one-man demolition derby David in check. --Kathleen C. The best series thus far
Review date: 2008-04-16 Rating: 10 out of 10
I found myself absolutely in stitches throughout this series. The series revolves around two events: Larry and Cheryl's vow renewals (and the impending 'special' anniversary gift), and Larry's upcoming stint on broadway, appearing in Mel Brooks' new Producers musical. Some shortcomings still seem over-rehearsed, but, overall, this sereis feels so much more natural than 1-3, and thus comes accross as terribly engrossing. See this series!

HBO's Guilty PleasureReview date: 2008-02-24 Rating: 10 out of 10What would you do if you met a blind man who believed that the boot ugly woman he was dating was a model? Would you tell him? He seems happy and it's not like he can see how ugly she is. This is one of the many social dilemmas faced by Larry David who continues to do and say as he pleases regardless of who he upsets.
See Larry pick up a prostitute so he can use the carpool lane when he is running late to a baseball game. See him upset Ben Stiller by refusing to shake his hand after he sneezes into it. See him try to take back a golf club that is being buried with a dead friend. See his awkward attempt at sleeping with another woman as his tenth anniversary present from his wife.
Series 4 is as hilarious as ever and Larry looks set to continue sinking lower with each episode.
Like this? Try: Curb Your Enthusiasm Seasons 1,2,3,5 Too funny for wordsReview date: 2007-09-03 Rating: 10 out of 10Here we are on series four and still Larry is getting into scrape after scrape, digging hole within hole and generally finding the world utterly intolerable to deal with. But when his dissatisfaction with life is so utterly compelling and painfully funny, we really shouldn't complain.
Is the formula wearing a little thin? Well, maybe, but it's still the funniest thing on television. Another ten hilarious episodes of cringe worthy brillianceReview date: 2007-07-04 Rating: 10 out of 10Seeing as Seinfeld is and always will be one of my favourite sitcoms of all time it was impossible for me to ignore this. I always get the feeling that Larry David is one of those rare people that only wants to be part of something if he is 100% sure that it will go down in history as something special and he has definitely succeeded again with this.
Like Seinfeld I only saw the odd episode of this when it was first shown on BBC2 but kept on missing it and wanted to watch it from the beginning in the correct order so I waited for the DVD releases. It was a gamble because I didn't know for sure how funny it was at the time and I only knew Larry David because of Seinfeld, but the gamble paid off big time. One of the things I have always liked about this programme is that I am never sure if Larry is going to come out of each episode smiling or not, it keeps me guessing till the very end. Another great thing is I have mixed feelings about his outspoken opinions as in most of the time I agree with what he says and sympathise with him in awkward situations that he gets himself into and then he will get into another awkward situation where I think he only has himself to blame. Either way it is laugh out loud funny. The only bad thing I can say is that there is only ten episodes a series, but quality will always be better than quantity and when you add them all up there will be at least fifty to laugh at over and over again.
So if you have still not seen this wonderful programme yet and you are not easily offended (as a lot of bad language and difficult subject matters), then you are extremely spoilt as you can watch all five series (if you can afford to buy them or borrow them) all at once, you lucky people.
priceless Review date: 2007-01-03 Rating: 10 out of 10series four of curb your enthusiasm could almost be forgiven if the quality dipped slightly, fortunately it doesnt and the madcap yet real feeling to it shines through.
While you can always see the disaster thats gonna happen to larry as incidents happen around him,its always great when it happens, series 4 revolves around mel brooks casting larry in a stage production of the producers, with cameos from ben stiller and david schimmer to name a few and all in all the brilliance is more than alive.
