Good fun

Mollie Sugden and Frank Thornton are terrific as is John Inman. What spoilt it for me (as it did when it was on TV) is Trevor Bannister who is irritating and unfunny. Without him it would have been much better.

Are You Being served Staring John Inman, Mollie Sugden, Wendy Richard, Frank Thornton, Nicholas Smith, Trevor Bannister, Arthur Brough, Harold Bennett, Larry Martyn. This DVD is a hilarious comedy in a department store where the Ladies Intermit apparel and gents ready made have to share the floor with each other watched by Captin Peacock. The two teams go to work and use crafty sales techniques to sell there last seasons stock. It is a truly great comedy classic!

The 70's was sit-com heaven. Some have been forgotten, but others, like Dads Army, The Good Life, and Are You Being Served remain fresh and as funny as the day they were released.

This, the first series of AYBS, includes the pilot and 5 other episodes. The pilot is in black and white, which does slightly affect the enjoyment, but thankfully the other episodes are in glorious colour.

The first series isn't perhaps quite as funny as the others - but all the characters are there - Ms Braams, Mrs Slocome, Captain Peacock, Mr Humphris, Mr Lucas, and Mr Grainger, Mr Rumbold, and Young Mr Grace. Oh, and the useless caretaker, Mr. Mash - why didn't they get Author English from the start?

Joanna Lumley makes an appearance in 'His and Hers'.

A jolly good watch and an essential DVD for all AYBS fans!

As with most Lloyd Croft productions the jokes can be over played and the whole show is pantomime in its style. What makes it good is that you become so involved with the characters. A sure sign of good writing. It is a microcosm of all that was wrong with 1970's UK. Unions, work to rule and general restrictive working ways. What you are always waiting for is what bizzare outfit Mr Humphreys will have on next or what colour hair Mrs Slocombe will have next. Its camp, cheesy but fun.
