A good Day film
Review date: 2008-08-26 Rating: 10 out of 10

This film can also be found as part of the Doris day collection. Not the best one in the collection but still a great comedy with Doris Day Tony Randall and Rock Hudson. The husband (Rock Hudson) over hears the doctors conversation and knows he is dying. He is a hypochondriac. Little did he know he overheard the wrong conversation. Now he has to find his wife (Doris Day) another husband.

What's wrong with it?
Review date: 2007-12-08 Rating: 10 out of 10

I think this is the best of the trio - a delight from start to finish. OK, not a great film for the serious critic but for someone who wants a funny, feel-good experience it's perfect. Well put together, well edited and with excellent performances, not only from the three stars, but from the supporting cast: Paul Lynde's enthusiastic cemetery manager is one of the highlights and Hal March is great as the womaniser looking for recently-bereaved conquests. Then there's the enormous Clint Walker squeezing out of his E-type Jag...
I've seen Citizen Kane but don't want to see it again. This, though, I can watch time and time again; isn't that why we buy dvds rather than just renting or borrowing them?

Good bu not great
Review date: 2007-05-03 Rating: 6 out of 10

Don't view this film expecting the freshness of Day / Hudson's best collaboration Pillow Talk. It is however, entertaining for the performances of the central actors, and the supporting cast get their moments too. Tony Randall (once again cast as Rock Hudson's neighbour / sidekick, does the job as well as ever, and the performance of the film may well be Paul Lynde as a funeral director who really loves his work!

If you want to see the best of this team, pick one of the others from the trilogy (Lover Come Back, Pillow Talk), but as an affable romcom it's not all that bad.

The Weakest Link
Review date: 2006-09-15 Rating: 6 out of 10

Of the films made by Doris DAy, Rock Hudson and Tony Randall, this is definitely the weakest. The plot meanders and has no real focus; and the jokes therefore fall a bit flat a lot of the time. You get the feeling of people who have had a successful formula in the past now trying to repeat that success but in a slightly stale and flat stage. That said, the leads are charmers; there are some dazzling moments of farce and comic timing from all 3; and the film is a pleasant time passer. It is not entirely dismissable, if only because of the sheer professionalism of the actors involved; and the genuine moments of fun towards the end of the film when Doris Day, as the beleagured wife, realizes that her husband has been faithful to her after all. It just makes you wish that all involved had been working with fresher and even more demanding material -- and you certainly won't want to watch it as often as Pillow Talk, for instance. If you liked this team in their previous films, you will also want it for completeness. But it is not a high priority.
