A Child's Perspective
Review date: 2006-11-28 Rating: 10 out of 10
Usually a collection of home movies that features complete strangers would provoke little if any interest to film fans. Darren Stein has cleverly overcome that problem with this intriguing feature PUT THE CAMERA ON ME. Acutely aware of his homosexuality at an early age Darren determined to avoid what could have been a frustrating and lonely childhood with a passion for home movies featuring younger brother Evan and a number of close neighbourhood friends. The different and sometimes controversial topics acted out by a willing and able young cast provides for pure escapism and entertainment. The boys comraderie is certainly infectious and reminiscent of that shown by the young stars of the internationally acclaimed STAND BY ME. A real depiction of kids lives, PUT THE CAMERA ON ME is well worth a look!
