Great Car Chase ,Cool Film,Great Actors. This is a must for Road Movie Fans
Review date: 2006-09-08 Rating: 10 out of 10
This film is THE Car Chases,Fonda looks the part as the driver, even when the cars are standing still,Adam Roarke is convincing as the reformed alcholic, struggling to make it back to mechanicing race cars, the low point for me is Susan George`s poor american accent and lack of real acting talent in this film.
There is an uncredited Apperance from Roddy McDowall who did not want a credited performance to affect his career as he thought the film would bomb.
The story is about a Robbery which is planned by Fonda ,and Roarke, who pick up along the way thanks to Fonda ,Susan George, who put a spanner in the works to the robbery plans.
soon we have the crooks on the run,and the Lawman Vic Morrow ,out to stop them at all costs.
the story is average to say the least, but the REAL star of the film is the 1969 Dodge Charger R/T
There is also a surprise ending,so i wont spoil it for those that have not seen this film before.
I have given the film 5,not because its Oscar material,i have not rated this on acting, its down to the pre CGI stunts, that showed the true spirit of Hollywood, back in the 1970`s,in some scenes you can clearly see Morrow up in the helicopter,in the thick of the car chase, something which would not be allowed today for insurance reasons (sadly Morrow was killed later on in his life in the 1980`s with a helicopter, when a stunt went wrong on Twilight Zone the Movie)
If you are a road movie fan buy this film you wont regret it,its a must have
