Great Fun
Review date: 2008-09-20 Rating: 10 out of 10
Really enjoyed watching this old classic again. While the acting maybe slightly wooden it dosent impead the fun of watching this entertaining movie, remember this film is from 1962 and the story is rousing with the 300 spartans and there allies holding off the mighty Persian army for a few days.Dont expect the special effects of the movie 300 or the sound quality but if your looking for a good old movie to watch for a couple of hours you need to get a copy of this movie well worth the price and a welcome edition to my DVD library.highly recommend.Hope short review is of help. Please check out my other reviews you might find something of interest.Cheers.

greatReview date: 2007-10-20 Rating: 8 out of 10this is a classic if you have seen the 300 dont forget this is it, closer to the truth than that film the 300 but not as existing , no one has got the story correct yet .so you have to fly between the 2Stilted and TheatricalReview date: 2007-03-27 Rating: 6 out of 10Although watching this film is a pleasant way to waste a couple of hours on a lazy Sunday afternoon, I cannot in all honesty give it more than three stars. Some of the action sequences are admirable, and the spectacle of 300 Spartans standing against an army of thousands is inspirational, but some of the acting is pretty dire.
I will be charitable and say that most of the fault lies with some fairly awful dialogue that even Olivier would have had problems with, but even having said that, David Farrar as Xerxes gives one of the most artificial and theatrical performances I have ever witnessed on screen. Only the battle scenes and the performances of Richard Egan and Ralph Richardson redeem the movie and make it worth watching. acting more wooden than a log cabinReview date: 2007-03-25 Rating: 2 out of 10if its good acting and great battle scenes you want, then give this movie a massive miss.you have to see the acting to believe just how bad it is. as for the battle scenes, i wasnt sure wether they were fighting or tickling each other! other sand and sandal films from the 60's, such as spartacus, ben hur etc can achieve this, why cant this film?Fun but highly inaccurateReview date: 2006-11-09 Rating: 8 out of 10Based around the events of the battle of Thermopylae during the Persian invasion of Greece in 480BC. During the battle 300 Spartan Hoplites commanded by King Leonidas against far superior numbers of Persians. Filmed during the early sixties the film has little in the way of historic accuracy beyond a few real quotes from the period but this does little to detract from the film, which is a good watch nonetheless. There are a few good performances by the main character and the battles are generally quite well choreographed, although there is nothing on the scale of those in Spartacus. Although there are many better films than this, watching the 300 Spartans is a good way of spending a couple of hours.
