Not what I was expecting
Review date: 2008-06-18 Rating: 8 out of 10

When I first saw the trailer for this film I thought it was a love story between the two guys on the cover of the case. In fact it is a very different story. The film is about a young man coming out to himself and those around him over the course of a summer during the 80s.

I found it hard to fault anything in this film. With a lot of gay cimema you do tend to find the production values sometimes look cheap and some of the acting is below par. With this film this never happens. You could easily be watching any mainstream film.

The only thing I didn't like about this movie was that the ending wasn't wrapped in a neat bow. It is by no means a bad ending but I got the feeling they could have continued a bit longer as there still seemed to be more story to tell.

Worth a blind buy.

almost unwatchable
Review date: 2008-04-11 Rating: 2 out of 10

having looked at the previous reviews for this movie I was expecting something really interesting & touching. What a disappointment! utterly boring with appalling, unattracive actors.I had to force myself to stay awake. This is the first review I have ever submitted for the very reason to tell others not to be fooled by the previous reviews( Maybe they were written by friends of the film distributor?

Unpretentious and very enjoyable
Review date: 2008-03-20 Rating: 8 out of 10

I really enjoyed this film. It is a story set in the eighties about a boy realising and then coming to terms with his sexuality. The soundtrack is fantastic, the acting is skilled and the costume is reminder of just how great/terrible eighties fashion was. The film deals with the emotive issues in a sensitive way and the overall feeling of the film is warm and unpatronising.

sweet young gay innocence

This film is the true-to-life story of a sweet young boy going through the difficult process of coming to terms with his sexuality in the 80's. It is not the most memorable of scripts of particularly visually impressive, but it is warm, very sweet and touching. It captures the fashion and trends of the 80's brilliantly and has a great contemporaneous sound-track.

very dated movie
Review date: 2008-02-10 Rating: 4 out of 10

The movie is typical of the 1980's. Very predictable & full of "cringe" moments when you realised how backward men were both in the making of the film (cutting out any sort of slightly erotic scene) right through to the lengths people goto to cover up their sexuality (badly).

All I can say is, thank goodness gay movies have moved on from this!
