Not bad, but well worth a watch
Review date: 2008-04-08 Rating: 6 out of 10
This video is really the VHS one on disk. Its not bad and there are some good battles but on the whole could have been improved. One failed to move and a second was disqualified.
One problem is that they say that there are 10 countries represented - represented by the British Robots, out of the 16 in the competition, 11 were from Britain but were representing Cyprus and the Czech Republic.
The format made the event long and this tournament wasnt as good as the other competitions

British Robot Wars Is BetterReview date: 2006-10-08 Rating: 6 out of 10This DVD features a one-off episode of Robot Wars, nothing else. No special features or anything. Some of the battles are pretty good. The ones involving Razer can also be found on the 'Razer' volume of the Robot Wars: Ultimate Warriors Collection, but some of them have been abridged.
The foreign robots are all rubbish (so they say). The Australian robot didn't even move! I think it is time they started releasing series box sets of Robot Wars they way they are doing The Simpsons at the moment. There are just seven series, but they all sound interesting.
Pretty good, but don't make it your first choice.Disappointing...buy the box set instead!Review date: 2006-02-21 Rating: 4 out of 10I bought this because I really like Robot Wars and wanted to see some great battles. I was disappointed. Basically this is an unedited version of the first world championship, probably just straight from VHS. That isn't the problem though...it's that the entire competition was pretty lame, as far as robot wars goes. A couple robots didn't even move off the start (you can bet how exciting that was), and one American robot was scratched due to safety issues (you'd think they would have tested that BEFORE the contest and got a replacement). Heck, most of the robots were from England anyways. The only good battles were involving Razer, but you can find those in the Box Set (with one DVD featuring Razer). The box set was actually made for DVD and has everything from how they build the robots to special features. A much better value and kept me entertained for hours. This, on the other hand is just a short recording of a lame competition. I would like to see the UK series in a real box set (they made 7 seasons I think), that makes a lot more sense than this. Of course, if you never saw Robot Wars before, this may be interesting but the Collector's box set (1 DVD each for hypnodisc, razer, chaos 2, and the house robots) is something you'll actually want to watch again and again.
