Product Description

A motley crew of retired police officers re-opens troublesome cases that were never laid to rest. From the discovery of a new motive in the killing of a college lecturer, to the tracing of a missing child, the team finds a way through the detail that eluded the original officers. But they are finding a surprising incidence of cover-up and conspiracy in their new investigations. Are their superiors about to close ranks? Or is someone feeding them particular files? Either way, the suspicion that they are being manipulated is high - and the team is determined to get to the bottom of it. These old dogs won't roll over too easily.

Hilarious. One of the best.

Ireally enjoyed "New Tricks", the only complaint is that it was over too soon, I kept looking in the box to see if there were not another disc that I'de skipped over.

Can somebody hurry series 4 onto DVD?
Review date: 2008-03-04 Rating: 10 out of 10

Contrary to other reviewers, we actually avoided the series on TV as we didn't much care for the main players in relation to past performances (or perhaps to be more specific, we didn't like what they were in). The only exception perhaps was Dennis Waterman who has pretty much played the same sort of role from comedy to drama. However, we picked up series 3 on UK Gold, when we were struggling to find something decent to watch one evening. We were pleasantly surprised at how good it was, and it has the right proportions of humour and drama to make you believe in the stories and in the characters. It is not a comedy, as one person suggested, but a series where, despite the somewhat macabre subject matter, we see the human side of the people investigating the cases. People involved in matters relating to death - doctors, nurses, police, undertakers etc don't have their funny bones removed at birth, so there is really no reason to assume the programmes should be all gloom and doom. Other similar programmes have gone down that path, and have become boring and depressing. New Tricks won't do that. I have now watched series 1-3 and await series 4 with eager anticipation. Deliberately didn't watch it on TV as wanted to see it all in order.

Beware, it's a comedy

I give it four stars, because I admit it's really well done and the cast is superb. But not because I liked it, as I didn't. Now, why? To tell the truth, I was mislead by the enthusiastic reviews, as I knew nothing about the show before. In fact I expected something like Waking the Dead, but it's nothing like that. Anyone who likes crime dramas should be warned, that this is a comedy based on a weird bunch of crime-solving old daddies and one woman. Good old British humour for those, who like it. A good comedy for those, who like comedies. Myself, I don't and I'm switching to something like Touching Evil instead, sorry.

Brilliant

What a great team, the banter between them is first class. We live in Spain and one of the things we miss is stuff like this. We were bought New Tricks 2 and watch the whole lot in one sitting one rainy Sunday what joy. Wanted to know how it all started we ordered New Tricks 1, eagerly awaiting for it to arrive. Not dissapointed its funny, tense, excellent dialog between them all. I especially like the woman v man quips. Now have ordered New Tricks 3 and know it won't fail to deliver. TV drama as its best, all actors are superb I love Jack talking to his dead wife, Brian's long suffering wife Ester is brilliant. D.I Sandra trying to keep it all together, and managing to look gorgeous in a mans world is first class. Gerry is such a lovable character, more please keep it coming U.C.O.S THANK YOU SO MUCH
