P.C Yet still good
Review date: 2008-01-25 Rating: 8 out of 10

All family enjoyed this
Not strictly accurate...is anything?
Engrossed boys in family and theme inspired debate.
In fact enjoyed it so much we watched it again at later date.
I cannot award 5 stars as could have been less P.C. and been even better.

Weak and politically correct
Review date: 2007-12-17 Rating: 2 out of 10

Stephen Fry appalling in comparison to Iain Cuthbertson in 1971 edition. Generally much less true to the book or the times. Fry appears smarmy and insincere and left this viewer totally unmoved.

Brill Film

Love Alex who played Tom Brown, very moving and likeable lad, and a moving role from Stephen Fry.

Only major down point is that it had no subtitles for deaf people like me.

POLITICALLY CORRECT WAFFLE!
Review date: 2006-06-14 Rating: 4 out of 10

Could and should of been good. I mean it's a great novel so what's the problem? Well in order not to upset the 'right on' brigade (ie new labour) they've taken out anything politically incorrect and practically rewritten whole sections so us sensitive folks won't get preturbed. In actually fact so disgusted was this tranvesty of a classic work that i gave up half way through. For goodness sake stop messing with literature. The school system in those days was based on discipline and violence so don't skim over it and pretend it never happen. What next i wonder? Stick with the excellant BBC version from 71, but gives this a wide berth because it is not based on the book and is just a purile 2004 take on it.

Brilliant

A fantastically made adaptation of Tom Browns School days i loved it from start to finish. The performance from Pettyfer who played Brown was exceptional and i think this is a definite must see. The best drama i have seen on TV in a long while. We'll be seeing a lot more from all the young actors in the future im sure.
