Brilliant Joe Brown at his best
Review date: 2008-03-08 Rating: 10 out of 10

My wife and I are old enough to remember Joe Brown when he had his early hits, and it's a real joy to know that he's still performing - in fact, we think he's got better with age. In 2008 he's on a 50th anniversary tour and if you get a chance, you must go and see his knockout live show with his "Bruvvers" (which now include his son Pete). Unlike many performers who were around in the 60's, Joe has never relied on his old hits to shore up a concert, and always includes a lot of new material. You get such a wide range that virtually all tastes are satisfied - pop, rock, ballads, country, folk, instrumentals, madrigals, negro spirituals - you get the lot, sung individually or in close harmony all to a very high standard interspersed with typical Cockney wit.

This CD showcases the sort of music that Joe does these days and just underlines what a talented performer he's been over the years - and still is. Enjoy!

Hit my Heart
Review date: 2005-06-01 Rating: 10 out of 10

As a thirty-something male brought up by a father who experienced the sixties and the musical roller-coster it presented to him I have always known of Mr Brown's music but never really paid any attention to it. I can't honestly say why I decided to buy this album but my god I'm glad I did.
I truly feel that listening to this one album of he's has brought me to the conclusion that Joe is a seriously underated and forgotten master of his time. Many people of my age know of the Beatles, Stones kinks etc. but to sit and actually listen to an album of this class from a man of that era makes me feel musically naive. I 'Will' be buying the back catalogue.
CLASS.

A GREAT cd!!

Like a good number of Americans, I didn't know who Joe Brown was until 'The Concert For George'. I bought this album on the strength of 'I'll See You In My Dreams' which is included on this cd. I was knocked out by how good this album is! I expected it to be good but it was MUCH BETTER than I had ever hoped! I would highly recommend it to one and all. I need to catch up on Joe Brown!

A really good album from a major underappreciated talent

The only bad thing about this album is that relatively few people wil get to hear it. It's a thoroughly enjoyable blend of updated skiffle and old fashioned rock with a small touch of dixieland thrown in for good measure. To add spice to the mix, there are a few casually delightful performances of standard classics, the charming ukulele-backed reading of I'll See You In My Dreams being the prime example. You won't regret buying this at all.
