Anyone have Region 1
Review date: 2008-04-24 Rating: 10 out of 10

This is not a review per se, but rather a question for the Marketplace sellers: are any of you selling a copy that is Region 1 coded or multi-regional? I would be interested.

And as far as a review, I believe Sidney Poitier to be the greatest living actor. To my mind, his greatest film is "In the Heat of the Night." Rod Steiger is exceptional as the sheriff of Sparta, MS as well. "Lilies of the Field" is his best "lighter" role, and he won an Oscar for that. Two "sleepers" you might find enjoyable: "Brother John" and "A Patch of Blue." (Warning: viewing "A Patch of Blue" may require you to keep a box of tissues handy throughout the film.)

Gentleman Sidney Poitier
Review date: 2008-01-06 Rating: 10 out of 10

Sequels are often not a patch on the original, but this is not so with this film. Although the same format is used in both films(To Sir With Love) i.e. black determined teacher teaches difficult and disadvantaged pupils, winning in the end, it works because 30 years after the first film, the story is taken up again but with Sidney retiring after a long, successful and inspiring career in England to take up a post in Chicago and in what could be happening in schools today, touching on drugs and guns. Sidney Poitier was wonderful in both films and I have already watched this film 3 times after it only arrived 3 days ago!! Parents with children - please watch it and be inspired.
