Amazon.co.uk Review
The audacious concert film Eddie Murphy Raw rubbed some people the wrong way upon its release in 1987, but there's no denying that between Murphy's more insensitive bits about women and gay men is some of his most inspired material. While the young comedian indulges an unattractive homophobia and rants about the sexual manipulativeness of all females, he makes up for it with an amazing story about being chided by Bill Cosby for obscene humor and does a great impression of Mr. T falling under the spell of a Jedi mind trick. The best stuff comes deep into the show, particularly a long tale of being pressured into a fight at a club, resulting in a phone call to Murphy's drunk father, the latter in the middle of a verbal attack on his wife. The scene is genuinely horrifying and funny, testament to Murphy's early reputation as heir to Richard Pryor's mercilessly autobiographical brilliance. --Tom Keogh

I suppose I was naive to expect anything more than brash, base humour from a comedian such as Eddie Murphy but even I couldn't believe how bad this performance was. His overly simplistic view of the complex relationships between men and women evinces little humour and just helps brand him an ignorant arrogant mysoginist.
Typical joke come rant "I like funny woman. I hate those shy women. But I would only sleep with a funny woman if she was really attractive". Hmmmm. Hilarious.
The whole show just left a nasty taste in my mouth which is probably why I found myself drifting off for large parts.
His humour has all the style, taste and discernment as his dress for the show (a bright purple leather suit for those who are fortunate not too have wasted 90 minutes of their life).

Impressions are greatReview date: 2007-04-23 Rating: 8 out of 10Eddie Murphy Raw is the second stand up film Eddie Murphy did and it's just as funny. The topics froms [...], [...], Wacko Jacko and Mr. T are all very very funny. Some of the film's best moments are when Eddie does impressions. If you've never seen this film you're in for a treat.Sorry - dont agreeReview date: 2007-02-28 Rating: 6 out of 10It's ok, but no way is it 'legendary' or genius. Don't get me wrong but Eddie comes off as a real woman hater in this. I don't find sexist comedy offensive as long as it is done with talent and intelligence but Eddie just uses the standard comic sterotype (Women be after yo money and men don't love women they just wanna get laid) for the entire show. Maybe it seemed funnier back then but in today's age it just seems a bit childish. Compared to the likes of Pryor or Hicks this is just a guy doing funny voices saying quite nasty stuff. I did laugh out loud at some bits, and we were all drunk, but there were long pauses between the laughter and eventually we turned it off and put on Bill Bailey.
Its not awful but it definitely ain't genius.classic comedy, one of the great shows of all timeReview date: 2006-12-07 Rating: 10 out of 10these days eddie murphy is ashamed of his two stand up comedy shows due to the content and the miniorities and sexual orientation that he rips through with unrelenting fashion.
Now i aint gonna say anything on that matter but what i know is that this is a legendary show that has lasted the test of time, doesnt sound aged, and is stll as funny today as it was then.
The show is coarse and crude but funny,so many classic lines of stand up are here, any one that has watched it can still repeat the lines with a fellow viewer and still laugh and while i couldnt possibly run through my favourite jokes here for fear of being censored, the sketch where his dad is drunk remain the funniest moment in stand up of all time, priceless Very, very funnyReview date: 2006-05-25 Rating: 10 out of 10When you watch this you wonder how a man so incredibly funny could make so many bad films. This stand up show has rarely been better by anyone. I lost count of how many times me and my housemates watched this during our university days and how much we quoted it (much to the annoyance of girlfriends). If you've seen delirious you'll notice the change in Eddie (five years or so in between), I get the impression he'd had a lot more relationship experience by the time he did Raw which is why his take on the subject is so spot on & hilatrious. Would love to see this bloke do some stand up again, Dr Dolittle just doesn't quite match up...
