Great fun, but what happened to "Mary loves Dick"?
Review date: 2006-09-29 Rating: 8 out of 10
I was really looking forward to the 3-day New Year's Dick Turpin event on this disc - the one with the infamous scene where Derek keeps repeating "Mary loves Dick." Unfortunately, that particular scene is nowhere to be found in the episode! Edited out in the interest of time, I suppose. Too bad, because it's one of the all-time funniest moments in Most Haunted history! This set would have got 5 stars from me if that scene had been included. I guess we'll just have to make do with the short clip of the scene that's on the "Top 50 Moments" disc.

Save Your MoneyReview date: 2005-05-30 Rating: 4 out of 10I was initially excited by the series Most Haunted, but found this particular DVD set a real disappointment for several reasons. First, the balance of skepticism/ historical fact seems to have gone away. This is no longer an investigation in process, folks, but a stage for Yvette to curse on and for Derek to go mad on. While this is happening on-screen, the parapsychologist in residence is taken to task by the MC for questioning the antics of Derek, and as things degenerate over the evening the MC is reduced to a frantic repetition of how exciting and interesting the evening is/was, as if this mantra could convince the audience that it was so. The audience, too, joins in abusing the parapsychologist, while the non-events happen on the screen. And for all that the parapsychologist does, besides looking all-knowing on occasion, or cracking a joke or two, and showing himself to be a good sport by standing outside on a snowy evening without a hat on, perhaps his true role is to deflect the attention of the audience with a little comic relief. Second, the locations don't seem to be very interesting--Yvette and Derek stumble around in the woods and get lost with their crew as they hunt for the spirit of Dick Turpin, and in another instance Yvette loses her boots in the mud as the crew walks next to a river by flashlight. Just when it gets too silly to be believed, Yvette calls in Derek, and we find ourselves watching--not in the hopes of catching a glimpse of an other-worldly being--but from wondering just when handsome D. is going to go off his rocker and have to be restrained again by the members of the crew. The historians make a game effort once in a while of trying to match what Derek growls, howls, or bellows, with a name or a date--but it's all too little too late to save the show. Derek Acorah seems to be losing it--literally--the man needs help. He kicked Yvette in the leg in the middle of one of his spiritual spasms. His next stop should be the psychiatrist's couch. As for the spirits themselves--well, one of them allegedly pitched a spoon at Yvette, but with the uncertainties in the shadows going on who's to say that it wasn't Derek in one of his less lucid moments or one of the crew who decided to liven up some dull events? With all the talk of the dead going on in this show, it seems to me from the evidence on this DVD set that the show itself is dying.Come back tommy cooper all is forgiven.Review date: 2005-03-31 Rating: 2 out of 10Never watched such a load of drivel in my life.Flying spoons my backside. If anyone wants a good nights sleep i suggest they watch this mullarky with a cup of hot milk.it has to be the best laugh i had in years. The only poltergeist activity in the whole set up would be the appearence of more money in the crews bankaccount overnight.Just like that as Tommy would say.***Buy It**Review date: 2005-03-22 Rating: 10 out of 10In my opinion, the best Most Haunted DVD ever!!
