As the face of Channel 4 comedy, Jimmy’s unique brand of humour is based on the comments he makes on life’s taboos using witty one-liners and offensive putdowns. He's come a looong way (sort of)
Review date: 2008-08-28 Rating: 4 out of 10

One word to describe this DVD: A resounding "Ehhh...".

Thank goodness Carr's performances have improved since this effort. While this show is a good buy for a Carr fan, general comedy fans shouldn't bother. The show is basically two hours of one-liners, delivered with such regularity and lack of innovation that he might as well be reading from an autocue. The show is obviously completely scripted and well-rehearsed beforehand. Some of the jokes are funny, yes, but in 2004 Carr didn't quite have the experience and spontaneity that stand-up needs.

Carr makes use a long display of clever one-liners in a style delivery style, although he is witty and original in his own style, his act does seem to grow tiresome about half way through. He fails to mix enough depth into his stand-up that we see from other great comedians who use various anecdotes, stances and delivery tones when delivering stand up in a deadpan style, for example steven wright or jack dee.
Instead he goes through countless random one-liner jokes for almost the entire act. His interactivity with the crowd adds a nice touch and gives him a chance to show off his quick wit and `in your face' style backchat that he does so well in his game shows, but he does not use it often enough and quickly resorts back to his scripted punch lines, some of which are bland and rather ordinary

Very bland collection of one liners.....

While this guy is obviously very quick at quirky responses, it doesn't do him justice to have a stand up DVD. He's very funny on TV, but this is quite frankly a terrible waste of money. It is, as others have said, a collection of 1 liners. The kind you get in a christmas cracker only he's thrown in some "cheeky" vulgarity, which in itself doesn't make it funny. Stick to watching him on TV shows where he shines. And buy a joke book.

Having just seen this show, probably wildly cut, on C4 the other night, I have to buy this show.
I dont know why people are complaining about his style. His delivery is dry, yes, but that is his brand of humout. This isn't Ricky Gervais, much the same as Ricky isn't the Krankies!
So he may offend people, but that's the nature of humour. Derek & Clive (Cook & Moore) are far far more offensive, but came about in a time where political correctness had absolutely no bearing.
Yes, this DVD is full of 1-line gags, but it isn't supposed to be a sketch show, if that's what you want, you're looking for "The Fast Show: Live".
Make your own mind up about what you find funny, but this isn't like his annaesthetised TV shows, he is allowed to let his dry annoyance of the world run free, and it's all the better for it.

Summary: Not for those who are easily offended, much like any other comedy rated 18 or above. Use your common

Warning: One Liners Only!

I really likes Jimmy Carr in 'Your face or Mine' and his new show '8 out of 10 cats'. However having a half hourly dose is very different to an hour and a half of him on his own...some parts will make you cringe! However some parts made me laugh out of loud, but not many. As the title of this review suggests...99% of his jokes are 1 liners...can get annoying!! Enjoy
