Third Series Shows Signs of Strain
Review date: 2007-06-23 Rating: 6 out of 10
The third series of the classic 1950's British television series is not as good as the first two seasons. Made in 1957 and first shown on the newly created ITV network over 1957/58, this series shows flagging inspiration in the stories and less zest in the scripts, production and acting. Patricia Driscoll replaces Bernadette O'Farrell as Maid Marian and O'Farrell is missed despite competence from her replacement. Richard Greene is still well-supported by a host of familiar faces like Paul Eddington, Kenneth Cope, Charles Gray. Alexander Gauge, Archie Duncan and Victor Woolf still play Tuck, Little John and Derwent.
The fourth and final series is also available for those who want the complete Adventures of Robin Hood.
Monochrome picture quality is mostly very high on the DVD but the sound is sub-standard
