This has to be one of the funniest programs I have ever seen. If your a Ritchie Rich and Eddie(Catflap)Hittler aka Rik and Ade Fan this is a must absolutely hilarious. My friends and I still quote this program chapter and verse to one another over 20 years on just shows you how memorable it is. Only complaint is that the BBC have really gone to town on the editing. I still have a video tape yes! a video tape of this I recorded off the TV back in the 80's and they have cut out a lot one of the best moments gone is the pick pocket scene were Ritchie sings lyrics from 'Oliver', superb. Look out for some of the facial expressions Eddie pulls classic comedy and not a word spoken. Buy now or regret it when it's packed of to the shelves of history absolute must if your into Rik and Ade. Love It

Truly awful. Worse even than I remembered.Review date: 2008-04-07 Rating: 2 out of 10This series has been mostly overlooked by TV since its first run. And rightly so. It is awful. It was shown again recently on one of the comedy channels and it is just cringeworthy. Imagine all the excesses of the young ones characters but without any of the comedy, and you have got it in one.
This show flopped, not because it rattled anybody's cage, but because it sucked big time.
Fortunately it didn't kill the careers of any of the cast, however, I bet they wish that this sleeping dog would be allowed to lie.
GreatReview date: 2007-08-25 Rating: 10 out of 10I prefer this to Bottom and The Young Ones.
Im not sure why but i just found it funnier and pleasanter. Why it didnt go on beyond one series is beyond me. Mixed emotionsReview date: 2007-01-26 Rating: 6 out of 10This series really is as good as I remembered it, and was unjustly underrated at the time. It definitely should have gone to a second series.
So why only 3 stars?
Firstly, because you `had to be there': many of the topical references and the lampoons of specific `celebs' just won't mean anything to a newer generation of viewers. Equally sadly for comedy writers, we no longer live in a time where political targets (on both the Left and the Right) so clearly define themselves and their dogged, cartoon beliefs that they practically write their own gags every time they open their mouths. That Golden Age of Self-parody has passed, and doesn't look like returning any time soon - Doublespeak and fractured English notwithstanding. (On the other hand, some of Richie's game/reality show ideas are spookily prescient of modern times, and perhaps should have remained in the realms of fantasy. Imagine, a world free of BB. Bliss!)
Secondly, despite what some other reviewers have said, I think the cuts on this DVD really do spoil the experience. Punch lines are left in where the set up has been edited out (huh!), and butchering the Richie-in-the-Nolan's-shower scene is nothing short of criminal.
Nevertheless, if you can live with these shortcomings, buy the DVD. The live feel and the pace of the gags (both verbal and very, very physical) is excellent most of the time, and the show-within-a-show talking and mugging to camera only adds to the fun. One thing I never noticed from the original broadcast is that Richie Rich tends to morph into Kenneth Williams really quite often. Was this planned?
OK, on second thoughts: 4.5 stars for fans, 3 for newcomers. Is that a fair deal, daughters?
Please ignore all the complainingReview date: 2006-10-31 Rating: 10 out of 10This is a brilliant dvd, classic Rik and Ade. I was a little worried when buying it because of all the reviews which say it is cut to shreds. This is simply not true. As far as I can see there is about 2-3 min cut off the last 2 episodes, which does not spoil my viewing pleasure one bit. I have seen a couple of the cut out bits, and you're really not missing much. I didn't buy it to see ade sing 'roxanne' badly. I bought it to see Rik and Ade kick the plop out of each other, and was not dissappointed one bit! A classic, and who cares if there are no extras, at least someone brought it out so we could enjoy this wonderful lost chapter in our Rik and Ade collections. Plus love Rik in the nolans Dress!
