Synopsis
With RUNTELDAT, troubled actor-comedian Martin Lawrence (BIG MOMMA'S HOUSE, DO THE RIGHT THING, BLUE STREAK) returns to the stand-up spotlight in order to set the record straight once and for all. Fed up with the way the media chose to portray him after a string of unfortunate run-ins with the law, Lawrence realised just how influential their role is in the making or breaking of a celebrity's career. Determined not to let that happen, Lawrence instead jumped right back into work. The result is RUNTELDAT, a concert film that 1) shows the media that they can't keep him down, and 2) gives him a chance to tell his side of the story. Of course, those rather bizarre occurrences aren't the only topics of discussion here. From September 11th, to parenthood, to relationships and divorce, Lawrence uses his oft-mimicked brand of profanity laden insight to try to make sense of things. And then there are the "incidents"--a drug freak-out in the middle of a busy Los Angeles intersection, a fight in a nightclub, and a jogging episode that landed the star in a near-death coma. Lawrence pulls no punches in telling his side of the story, resulting in a hysterical, yet always humane, concert film.

This was just awful egotistical nonsense. He may as well have got up on stage and said "I'm back, I rule, I'm so funny I can just talk about the wonder that is me and never actually have to write any material."
I was sooo bitterly disappointed. I absolutely adore his films and was well excited when I saw this DVD on sale. It put me right off him. There was the odd funny line but this really is poor. If you are a fan of his movies don't watch this - it'll spoil him for you.

Extremely disappointing

I am a huge fan of stand up comedians, and every time I do an amazon order for comedians I know I always try to order someone that I haven't seen any of before. I was looking forward to this as I enjoyed the Bad Boys films, and black comedians like Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy and Bernie Mac were the first comedians to get me into stand up.
This DVD isn't funny. The crowd laugh and clap, but this DVD is entirely crude humour and statements that appeal to American pride. So what he gets a clap for standing on stage and saying America is the greatest country in the world? It's not comedy, and it doesn't appeal to anyone who isn't American (or any of the americans that I've talked to about it).
And how much does have to drag these jokes out? The childbirth sketch; it goes on and on and on, and is basically Martin Lawrence looking ill. For ages. There are no jokes in this whole routine, and, predictably, it descends into crudeness and swearness.
If you want black american comedy, go with Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Dave Chapelle... But avoid this DVD. It's not funny, and the arrogance with which it is delivered has no bearing its quality.

Martin's back at his best absolute class being open and hilariously funny about his run in with the law and also about him being in a coma but worth the money alone for his story about falling in love with the kind nurse,a must buy for any Martin Lawrence fan this is brillant.
