Feel Good Comedy
Review date: 2007-06-12 Rating: 8 out of 10
Mel Gibson and Robert Downey Jr complement each other well in this simple comedy. it's not meant to be serious or tell a story, it's just there to make you feel good. together they bring off some great laughs.

Air AmericaReview date: 2004-12-22 Rating: 10 out of 10Mel at his best!! A must see in my opinion. Robert Downey Jnr is excellent and him and Mel work together well. There are some great one liners and it is just one of the funniest films ever. The helicopter crash never ceases to make me laugh and the version of "Horse With No Name" sung out of tune in the restaurant must be heard to be believed. Not That Good A FilmReview date: 2002-06-19 Rating: 6 out of 10I have seen this 3 times. I have always left gaps between the viewings in order to reapraise it. This is not a "great" Vietnam film. The performances are not special and the story is good but should have been fair better. I have read the book that this is based on and the book is far more revealing and insightful than the film. The film has taken a few stories from the book and worked them around a lose plot that tries to weave several themes from the book - drug and gun running, pilot excentricities etc - into a film.
Unfortunately the film does not grip you. It becomes a Sunday afternoon popcorn movie and leaves you feeling unfulfilled.
Mel Gibson does not let Robert get him Downey (Jnr)Review date: 2001-07-09 Rating: 8 out of 10This is a 'Nam film of the utmost quality, the script is poised perfectly between wise-cracking comedy and raw emotion as the pilots and crews of the ubiquitous, but officially secret Air America supply the ground troops whilst at the same time the flyers participate in their own scams and "get-rich quick" schemes. In particular Gene(Mel Gibson)who smuggles guns, to the distress of his friend-new boy Robert Downey Jnr. Gene's participitaion in this activity ultimately leads him to the finale where he must make a crucial moral choice over saving refugees caught up in a drugs war involving many of the supporting cast (which in itself is esquisite).Overall I believe you should do yourself a favour and see this film as soon as you can!Robert Downey Jr. & Mel Gibson both in good formReview date: 2001-02-04 Rating: 10 out of 10This is and adventurous and overall very funny film where pilots (Mel Gibson & Robert D Jr.) work for the US government flying supplies behind enemy lines. I really really do suggest you get this one, i promise you will want to keep it forever ! Geoff Willis
