Friday the 13TH meets Sleepaway Camp
Review date: 2006-09-06 Rating: 4 out of 10

This 1987 comedy horror is an obvious rip off of both Friday the 13TH 1980 and Sleepaway Camp 1983. The movie is entertaining enough if you like low budget 80s slasher fare. The plot takes place at a remote camp which is used for the training of Cheerleader finals. This year however, the team of Camp Hurrah are in for a few gory surprises. The team members are strangely dissapearing one bye one ( my this could be either Friday the 13TH or Sleepaway Camp )and nobody has a clue as to what is going on or where all the team members are going. At the middle of all this is Alison Wentworth( Betsy Russell ) a young messed up mentaly unstable cheerleader who has to take pills to obtain a relatively sane disposition. Her best and only buddy in the camp is The team mascot Corey Foster( Lucinda Dickey ) who is a seemingly innocent warm hearted girl with good intentions towards Alison. To top all this off, Alisons boyfriend at the camp Brent Hoover(note the terrible name)is flirting and sleeping with nearly every other cheerleader on site. The murders are gory and over the top, the humour is relentless and silly and the nudity is most decidedly gratuitous. Cheerleader camp is basicaly a cheap version of Friday the 13TH which tries to be more of a comedy than a straight horror movie. It is really a load of mindless nonsense but its well worth a look if you like 80s horror bad acting or both.
