Caveat Empor: NOT the Herge's Adventures!
Review date: 2008-11-13 Rating: 4 out of 10
Just so no one makes the same mistake I just did, I feel obliged to warn you that these are NOT the Tintin episodes I fondly remember. This is some 90's Canadian remake with awful voice acting. I didn't realise (until now) that the long-lost VHS from my youth that I was hoping to revisit here was of an episode apparently made some time between 1958-63 (The Black Island), ie: the ones that started with the sinister cry of "Herge's Adventures of TINTINNNNN!". From reading some of the other reviews, it would seem some of us have watched this and have consequently doubted our own memories or have just chalked it up to voices being overdubbed. It must be made more clear: No! There are two separate Tintin series'.
That major grumble aside, if you want the 90's remakes, they're all here though without any bonus features.
The discrepancies between the two versions are probably common knowledge to Tintin afficionados, but as an outsider just chancing on a pleasant nostalgia trip, I've now learnt my lesson; in future, I'll do some wikipedia-ing before rushing to the checkout!

Mis-sold by Amazon - description is a lie. That's why they're cheap.Review date: 2007-11-25 Rating: 2 out of 10I bought this for my nephew for his birthday as he is 8 and a Tintin fan - he is also French and does not speak a word of English. The description and commentaries stated that the DVDs were in French and English - this is a lie it is in English only (not even any sub-titles). I'm sure these are very good DVDs if you want English translations but if you want the ORIGINAL language or if you are heard of hearing and require sub-titles then you'll have to look elsewhere. It is not difficult to see why they appear to be cheap.A short review of Tintin DVDReview date: 2007-08-11 Rating: 10 out of 10I bought this DVD about 3 years ago, ive watched it about 8 times, i am a fan of herge and the tintin books, and i love this program i think its brilliant.
It does miss out bits from the books, but that is expected because of budget and censorship issues.
Dont hesitate to buy if you are a tintin fan, if you are new to tintin please buy this before the books because it will introduce you to the tintin world.EXCELLENT!Review date: 2007-05-01 Rating: 10 out of 10This is a brilliant boxset of all your fav tintin adventures! I watched this when I was only 6 and I still love it today! Brilliant and exciting still and worth it at the price it is selling at!
A trip down memory laneReview date: 2007-01-10 Rating: 8 out of 10When I saw this box set in the stores on special, I jumped for joy and excitement. For so long I have been trying to collect all the Tin Tin books and videos. And now here are all the episodes on DVD! My husband and I embarked on watching the DVD set, and I began to take a trip down memeory lane. However, much like the other reviewers mentioned, it did not seem as magical this time around. I remember my brother and I waking up early on Saturday mornings when we were younger and planting ourselves in front of the TV at 7:30am, waiting in anticipation for the next episode of the adventures of Tin-Tin. These DVDs probably capture the essence of the adventures of tin-Tin, but alot of what I can remember, especially regarding characters antics, have been ommitted. I dont know whether that is to keep the episodes shorter, or whether it is due to political correctness. The books, I'd say, probably have a more valid representation of what Hergé had in mind. However, it is a definite must for your DVD set and for those rainy days when you want to sit, veg and watch something besides the reality crap on TV these days. Tin-Tin and his friends are still an absolute favourite of mine, and this DVD set has been a very valuable find!
