Good enjoyable film
Review date: 2007-05-13 Rating: 8 out of 10
Watch your Stern, could be a Carry Film. It has many of the regulars in, i.e. Kenneth Connor (who is outstanding!), Joan Sims, Sidney James etc.
Well worth buying if like me you enjoy a good British Comedy. Being in black and white this film has an 'atmosphere' that a colour versin would not.

Witty pre-"Carry On"Review date: 2006-11-20 Rating: 10 out of 10Many laughs, as well as a fine and well-known cast! From the outset, though, the real star of this film has to be Kenneth Connor, who shows just how brilliant an actor he was. His portrayal of a lowly ship's rating, enthralled with electronics, yet accident prone, is completely believable. However, he comes into his own, when he is made up to become the absent minded "boffin" and then an "old dragon" of a female scientist. With the ever lovely Joan Simms, a bearded Syd James, Leslie Phillips and even a rare appearance of the late great Spike Milligan, who gives a plausible impression of an Indian electrician. Even a relatively minor appearance of a young Hattie Jacques, helps to make this a film that will guarantee a lot of laughs. Watch out for the "Potter" play on words, very cleverly written and brilliantly executed. Another fine performance, too, by Noel Purcell, who plays the Admiral brilliantly! You will even see some views of Chatham Dockyard - most of it has gone now, but some parts can still be seen, such as the main gate! The plot? They lost that ages ago, but it's all about a disastrous torpedo, that blows up the wrong ships and how our hero (Kenneth Connor) tries to save the day. Very typical, early Carry On; timeless!Pretty Dire EffortReview date: 2006-10-30 Rating: 2 out of 10This is no classic British Film Comedy. The film does have a strong cast, many of whom went on to star in the "Carry On" series. Unlike many of those later films, however, the script of this one is too weak to allow the cast to make much use of their talents. It is very slow, verging on tedious, with a dire shortage of jokes or even amusing incidents. Best avoided unless you are really desperate.Pan and scan?!Review date: 2005-10-29 Rating: 8 out of 10Yep, this film features some of the best Carry-On crew, and is shot in lovely black and white. The film opens in its original widescreen ratio, but once the opening credits close the film zooms into tired old TV 4:3 format. This might be high-quality low-brow cinema, but it deserves to be seen in all its cinemascopic glory.... tut tutExcellentReview date: 2002-11-16 Rating: 10 out of 10This is basically a toned down carry on film. The films have some of the Carry on regulars in, i.e. kenneth connor, joan sims, sid james etc... The big Job plot: After serving time in prison, the gang try to retreive some loot that they hid before they went to prison, but the above the place where they hid it is a police station, even so they still attepmt to get it. Watch your Stern plot: The plans for a new torpedo are accidentally destroyed by hapless seaman Kenneth connor, however, when the admiral declares he is going to come aboad with a visiting scientist who wants to see the plans the crew race around tryijng to cover it. these are excellent films. if you liked the style of comedy in britain at the time or if you liked the carry on films, then you WILL like these, I strongly suggest that thses films be bought because they are classic British gems
