Danger Man - the 30 min. episodes
Review date: 2007-04-18 Rating: 10 out of 10
Excellent series, no reservations there, but some reviewers seem puzzled by the absence of the famous "harpsichord" opening music sequence. Ah well, this is 'cos the very early half-hour episodes didn't have it. The later one-hour episodes carry the legendary, memorable, harpsichord opener and end titles, and also benefit from deeper and more involving storylines because of the extra time given to each episode. The later series is much better and is being released by Network DVD sometimes in mid-2007 I think. Watch Amazon for updates or go to www.networkdvd.co.uk

Slightly annoying.Review date: 2007-02-16 Rating: 6 out of 10I couldnt wait to buy the original video of Danger Man as I was an avid fan first time round.. but.. the intro.. oh. We`ve since had the `Secret Agent` series from the U.S. shown on brit tv.. and thats why no harpsichord intro with bullseye bit.. I was annoyed, pleased to see the series again. High Wire is the theme with the harpsichord, was available on 45" single at the time, and I bought it. Edwin Astley. The only time I`ve seen the High Wire theme and intro is when someone showed the two part colour episode on brit tv. I wrote to find out why and they said they were the only eps available.. then I read they were the only two colour eps made. OK.. there must have been a lot of others with High Wire, as they were shown in the 60`s? Or have they been scrapped? I never knew the other intro.
Yes, all good stuff.. McGoohan master of the showing you what hes doing device wise.. the fissticups.. I remember the early black and white Saints being the best fights on tv at the time with maybe one hair out of place at the end.Always entertaining, as was Danger Man. So.. thats why `Secret Agent`.. yes, U.S. A shame. I dont think the programme makers knew their products would be so popular so many years on.Who does when they are making them. The fact its part of brit tv heritage.. went completely over the bbcs head and they scrapped so much to reuse the tape.. thats criminal. Still.. apart from re found private collections and foreign stations finding eps in basements..theres always a chance.
I used to tape tv sound to reel to reel..then imagine the pics after. Now we have dvd and I`m still trying to catch up.. the vhs tapes can go soon.
Classic 60`s TVReview date: 2006-10-03 Rating: 10 out of 10This is some of Patrick McGoohans best work before "The Prisoner". You can`t take your eyes of him, its a performance you want to watch again and again. This is the box set to the first season of "Danger Man" in America it went under the title of "Secret Agent" and evan had a different title seqence. These episodes are the half hour adventures, later seasons would be hour long episodes, but great viewing anyway. Its long over due for the further seasons to be released, Network should get their finger out, but I`m sure it wont be long before we can all enjoy McGoohans Danger Man in all its glory......Whenever theres a problem thats when we call for Drake, John Drake..... pre-bond spy stuff.Review date: 2006-08-05 Rating: 6 out of 10a dated series to be sure and certainly not as good as james bond(on which this is similar), but a good programme all the same.
patrick mcgoohan does a brilliant job as special agent john drake. i like the way the character is far removed from simon templar for example; slightly distant, has no time for romance plus the fact that drake has to work for a living - hence the fact that he doesn't display the care-free attitude of templar.
the 25 minute format hasn't always been a success for a live action series, but it works well enough here. the pace is always fast moving at least. you will notice the usual backlot sets that substitute for "foreign locations," but don't let that put you off.
notable guest stars include future film star robert shaw, t.v regular derren nesbitt, under-rated actor nigel green and many others.
this d.v.d set has been deleted for quite a while, and could a considerable sum but it is worth it.So dated.Review date: 2006-02-20 Rating: 2 out of 10I had memories of loving this when I was young, BUT despite McGoohan's obvious charisma, the story lines are as paper thin as a 'Crossroads ' filmset.
One episode was enough.
Through tinted glasses we look backwards............
Don't waste your time.
