A good movie with a good cast. John Wayne is in London on the hunt for a Chicago gangster played by John Vernon. Unfortunitly he has been kidnapped by some British gangsters. One of the top sequences in this movie is when Brannigan drives a yellow 1974 Ford Capri in a car chase. Over all a great and funny action thriller from the seventees.

I had been waiting to get my hands on a copy of BRANNIGAN for a long time, and I have to admit It was worth the wait. The plot of the film has been outlined in previous reviews so I'll skip that. BRANNIGAN was made the year after Big John made McQ, (also great) so I assumed it would simply be a reworking, so I was pleasantly suprised. BRANNIGAN is much easier viewing than McQ because there aren't as many twist to the plot, this film is simpler and has the action I felt McQ lacked.
BRANNIGAN succeeds because of the balance of humour and drama. John Wayne is a complete fish out of water in London, so his interaction with the people is very funny. Even more so is his relationship to the head of Scotland Yard played by Sir Richard. His straight-laced police man simply does not approve of John's maverick methods. The film also benefits from John Vernon's villain and Judy Geeson's charm. I would recommend this film to John Wayne fans or any one who likes cop thrillers.
Not Bad; just not a Classic.

It's not thought provoking and it's not a masterpeice but then I think we have to bear in mind it wasn't meant to be. If you take it as "Dirty Harry" transfered to London with John Wayne as the lead then this ain't too bad. The plot is good as are the performances. Seventies UK Fords are much in evidence if cars are your thing as are a couple of ratty Jaguars (an E-Type and an S-type) just as any self respecting crook would drive in the era. The car chase is exciting and some of the camera effects are nicely done plus you get a good view of mid seventies London and all the tourist sites plus shots of a London "character" that has long since disappeared never to return. Think "The Sweeny" in places. I bought in for under a fiver and wasn't disappointed. If the TV is rubbish order a pizza and watch this to while away a couple of hours.

Very good film. In my opinion Dirty Harry is a better film but still an excellent film and very watchable.
Wayne plays Eastwood

This 1975 film starring John Wayne as an american tough cop chasing a dangerous criminal in England owes a little to much to the Clint Eastwood Dirty Harry films of the 70ths!
Although Wayne goes along with is classic screen persona and Sir Richard Athenborough gives a solid performance in a suporting role, Wayne is too old to be convincing in this film, specially working with a young actress who plays her brithish escort cop and who develops a crush for the 60 year old man!
Competent in all departments...except for the fact that it should have been played by a younger actor...the film seemed to point the obvious end of Wayne's carrer....fortunatly he said farewell with the classic "The Shottist"!
The dvd presents the film in is original aspect ratio of 2:35 and a clear mono sound, plus a trailer.
For John Wayne fans only!
