The best thing on TV
Review date: 2007-11-14 Rating: 10 out of 10
I caught a few episodes of Cagney and Lacey in re-run after school in the mid 90's and I loved it. I eagerly await the rest of the series on DVD and I loved hearing about how the series came about in the interview segment on the DVD.
Cagney and Lacey is the best television show in existence.

Cant wait for vol 2 would be good if it was out already!!! But I got vol 1 so that should keep me going. You'll love it brilliant!!! Cagney and Lacey -Vol1Review date: 2006-11-07 Rating: 10 out of 10"Cagney and Lacey" was the ground breaking drama series about two police women, the single, highly ambitious Christine Cagney and the married mother of two,Mary Beth Lacey, very hard working but more there for financial need than Cagney and constantly trying to juggle her work and run a home for husband Harvey and her two sons.
Loretta Swit of MASH fame played Chris Cagney in the TV Pilot,Tyne Daly playing Mary Beth Lacey throughout, when the TV series started,Meg Foster was playing Cagney, after six episodes the series was cancelled,it was felt by some the two women were too alike,so Sharon Gless, the orginal choice to play Cagney, took over the role and the combination of Gless and Daly was a hit and the series went from strength to strength, even returning after another cancellation, due to public demand.
Gless said the secret of playing Cagney "was talking tough and wearing pink"and underneath all her aggression and determination,Cagney at times seemed like a little girl lost when most vulnerable.
One of my favourite episodes was "Burn Out",Lacey in desperate need of a vacation, has her leave cancelled at the last moment and goes AWOL,Daly got a much deserved Emmy for her potrayal of a woman on the brink of a nervous breakdown and she and Miss Gless went on to win several more awards on this show.
A real classic TV show,I highly recommend.Dynamic duoReview date: 2005-08-12 Rating: 10 out of 10I had forgotten how good this series was. The way it combines domesticity between the streets of crime and between Cagney and Lacey. This seems to be a selection of episodes from the first series.
Bring on the Series 1 releases etc asap!
