Simply awful - a poor imitation of the far better film - Murder by Death (Peter Sellars)

Minority view...Review date: 2008-02-26 Rating: 4 out of 10I definitely seem to be in the minority here. I got the film when I read all the outstanding reviews on Amazon, especially since they compared it to 'Murder by Death', which I think is fantastic. Someone also said it was almost as funny as 'Airplane', which I find hysterical! But I was really disappointed: it seemed to me like a slapstick version of 'Murder by Death', without any of the inventiveness and witty dialogue. Despite the quality of the cast, I thought it was a rather poor film. Funny, fast and entertainingReview date: 2008-02-03 Rating: 8 out of 10A real bargain! This is an extremely funny film. It runs more like a play than a film - the script is witty and fast. It's well edited and played with tongue firmly in cheek.
I really liked this - and for heavens sakes don't confuse this with the grossly inferior though earlier "Murder By Death" (which is a stinker!)
Tim Curry is on super camp form. And Madeline Kahn is utterlly hilarious. Frankly all the actors are excellent with not a weak link. Hilarious farceReview date: 2008-01-09 Rating: 10 out of 10I watched this film as a child and loved it, mainly because of the physical comedy, and the suspense. As an adult I can appreciate it on other levels - the script is witty and lively, and the situations are very funny.
It combines elements of mystery, 'whodunit', and farce - i.e. lots of people trapped in rooms, slamming doors, exits and entrances, chandeliers crashing down etc.
My favourite character is Mrs Peacock (a senator's wife!) who gets increasingly hysterical as the fateful evening develops.
This is well-worth watching, and, as others have pointed out, the intriguing "multiple endings" device is quite ingenious. I Buttle...Review date: 2007-09-16 Rating: 10 out of 10At time of writing this review, this DVD is an amazing £2.99!!! I simply urge anyone who enjoys a laugh to buy this superbly observed film.
If you haven't seen it - I shall not spoil it but restrict myself to saying it is loosely based on Cluedo. It is almost a farce in terms of genre, but that would belie the sheer brilliance of the acting (a host of stars and Tim Curry as ever steals the show) and the magnificence of the script... I am running out of superlatives.
Buy it, buy it, buy it!!!
If you have seen it, surely this belongs in your collection, and at this price it is UNMISSABLE.
