Amazon.co.uk Review
In the breezy Maid in Manhattan, a maid in a top-flight hotel (Jennifer Lopez) chances to dress in a guest's clothes just when a handsome political candidate (Ralph Fiennes) walks in. Naturally, he's bowled over and pursues her; he's initially drawn to her gorgeous good looks but soon comes to appreciate her honesty and common sense. Of course, she can't let him know that she's only a maid, and various high jinks ensue--it's all pretty formulaic, but lurking in the edges of this glossy, brainless romance are a wealth of sly turns by Natasha Richardson and Amy Sedaris (as callow socialites), Bob Hoskins (as a dignified butler), Stanley Tucci (as Fiennes' exasperated campaign manager), and many less familiar faces. All help to give Maid in Manhattan the life and texture that has been processed out of the main characters. --Bret Fetzer

Fiennes excellent in a feeble comedyReview date: 2006-10-12 Rating: 6 out of 10I bought this DVD because I was curious to see Ralph Fiennes in a comedy. I think he is our greatest living actor - incredibly versatile, he seems to be able to play any role and he has a wonderful voice and extraordinary eyes. Although this film is a very feeble comedy and not worthy of his talents, he is totally convincing as the American politician. I'd like to see him in a really good romantic comedy. The fact that he gives the impression of being madly in love with the ghastly Jennifer Lopez is yet one more proof that he is a great actor! I've never seen her before and I don't want to again. She can't act and she isn't even very attractive. Why on earth did they choose her? Bob Hoskins and Natasha Richardson are excellent in supporting roles.one of my faves :)Review date: 2006-09-01 Rating: 10 out of 10This is one of my faves in my collection. Every girl dreams of the prince charming, and in this film he becomes reality.
J.LO does good in this film, and i havent seen Ralph Fiennes other films so i cant compare, but i loved him in this.
Of course its just light hearted, chick flick fun which i am a big fan of. I love Marissa's son Ty, he's a cutie and a good little actor. If u are looking for a great, romantic comedy this is the one! Christmas is a good excuse to dreamReview date: 2006-08-19 Rating: 6 out of 10Incredible fairy tale but after all why not. In this world of ours everything is possible even flying to the moon. And there we do fly to the moon, or are flown to the moon. And it works and is pleasant for two main reasons. First this maid who is playing Cinderella revisited is able to say a few nice truths to this biggy future would-be senator, like the fact that he would never have noticed her if she had been a plain maid. And also because her son is the sentimental, even sentimentalese naive argument that makes the sauce set, and set it does and set it will. So enjoy the fairy tale even if today's world is not that pleasant all the time, and New York City that clean and that safe. After all it is nothing but, and that's something indeed, a Christmas fairy tale, a Christmas carol of sort, the best fairy tales in the world.

Not so bad afterallReview date: 2006-04-12 Rating: 6 out of 10Ok, so let's keep it real: this is no Oscar-winning masterpiece. However, I think most people will enjoy it for what it is - light-hearted 'Pretty Woman' style fun.
Lopez is surprisingly good as the maid, but Fiennes is miscast as the Senetor-elect.
I loved Natasha Richardson's over-the-top Caroline and Stanley Tucci as the ever-frustrated Jerry.
Film highlight for me was the beneit scene filmed at the New York Met with the excellent Glenn Lewis singing Fall Again.
